Just starting out and enjoying milling.

Deck Help forum

Unfortunately I am always losing to aggro decks. Actually, scrub that, I am just always losing at FNM.

Any advice on how to fine tune it would be a great help. I haven't looked much at other decks and have simply tried to build this as I played (while borrowing some cards from friends), so if you could let me know why I should make some changes that would also be great.

First: you can link to your deck by using [ [deck:learning-dimir] ] without the spaces

-> Learning Dimir.

If you need to slow aggro down, a Dimir Charm or three might be a good choice. It's also very versatile in it's modes, letting you counter some spells or ruining your opponents topdeck.

Other good cards to keep aggro in check: Devour Flesh , Tragic Slip (rotating out soon), Doom Blade (doesn't work against Rakdos Cackler though), and maybe Frost Breath .

I'd certainly remove Traumatize since after you played it, it doesn't do much as in it doesn't improve your board position. With the jace you can 'tick down' your opponent and he has to deal with it lest he loses and he's just the same mana cost, therefore giving yourself more time to do other things.

Also, if you're a beginning player, maybe mill-control is not such a good start, since you don't know what to expect from your enemies and might just not play very well as a control player. I'd recommend reading some of the daily dose of standard articles, where caley plays a pure control deck (although it's not a mill deck, but you'll learn a lot about control-plays).

Thats great, thank you!(I spotted deck linking directly after posting, sorry about that). Dimir Charm I have, but may have to hunt down some Devour Flesh .

I know starting out more aggressive decks would be the way to go, but I simply can't afford to build multiple decks, and since from the starters I enjoyed Dimir the most I have stuck with it. Taking out Traumatize feels odd, but I can see what you mean, I have another Jace here so may sub that out. Is Liliana worth keeping, she is mostly for her counter with Mind Grind ?

Since this is a pre-rotation deck, how about adding a Nephalia Drownyard or two?
