Kaalia of the Vast + Odric, Master Tactician =?

So this came up in my (first ever) EDH game last night, and some of us were wondering about a situation that arose.

I was using my Fantasy Smorgasbord sans Meyer deck and had Odric, Master Tactician , Kaalia of the Vast , and 1 other creature out. I declared an attack with all 3, triggering Kaalia's ability, which brought my attacking creature total to 4: Odric and 3 others. I thus concluded that through Odric's ability, I was allowed to choose and assign blockers, which was met with some "Uh, I dunno about that..." type reactions from my friends.

Was I correct in how I played it, or should I not have been allowed to choose and assign blockers? I figure the wording on both Odric and Kaalia simply say "attacks," and not "when Odric and 3 or more other creatures you control are declared as attackers..."

So how should this situation have played out?

this was incorrect because odric must be declared attacking with 3 other creatures so what would happen is you declare attackers then your when attack triggers go on the stack. odric won't trigger because he didnt attack with 3 other when the triggers would be placed on the stack so the creature from kaliaa wouldn't count because in came in after the triggers would be put on the stack.

it sounds confusing and it can probably worded better but either way it doesn't work.

Attacks is short for declared as attackers. You were wrong.
