Killing tokens
Deck Help forum

I'm thinking of making a deck around the 'hunted' creatures of the ravnica block, namely Hunted Dragon , Hunted Horror , Hunted Troll , Hunted Lammasu and Hunted Phantasm , as well as Forbidden Orchard . The idea is that i play my guys, give them heaps of creatures but I get really powerful ones, and use some removal to get around theirs. I've already got Engineered Explosives and Illness in the Ranks , but are there any other cards in the modern format that you know of that can kill tokens easily, while not killing my creatures? (Like a destroy all tokens for 3-ish mana?) Preferably below 6 mana.

Maelstrom Pulse would be a better alternative to Sever the Bloodline plus it says permanents.

My favorite solution for killing tokens is just playing AEtherize on them or using Unsummon on the big ones. AEtherize is just a great card against any deck with tokens as it acts like a board wipe. You could also use Mizzium Mortars for sure because it would likely kill a lot of the other creatures that your opponent has put into play during the game. I really like Ratchet Bomb for modern though, because you can just play it for two and sacrifice it right then, because all tokens have that CMC of 0. One last card I like is Abrupt Decay , because it kills any token and is uncounterable, and it is also good for other things the opponent might play, plus it's an instant that only has a CMC of 2.

Leyline of Singularity works for tokens with the same name.

Maelstrom Pulse and Sever the Bloodline won't work on the Hunted Horror tokens, so that's a thing. In general, Ratchet Bomb is ideal because it also blows up aggro and zoo decks while fitting in a deck of any color. Echoing Truth is second best because it's instant, but you gotta play blue (not hard in Modern).

Ratchet Bomb is what I'm looking for. Torpor Orb is good except that Forbidden Orchard tokens don't stop coming. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Portcullis is super powerful with Forbidden Orchard , you can essentially always make it so you're only facing the flightless spirits.

Overloaded Cyclonic Rift . Best way to deal with tokens imo. Or just the usual Nightshade Peddler + Izzet Staticaster combo.

I'm still saying AEtherize . you don't need to worry too much about the spirits, and if they swing at you with those 3/3's or those 2/2's then you have an answer. I'd just wait a couple turns until you NEED to use the spell. it's a gamechanger when used correctly

Ratchet Bomb , the card whose inclusion in M14 made me completely abandon plans for playing a token deck post-rotation, is the only answer.
It works better around counter magic. It doesn't require the opponent's consent to kill his tokens (as cards that only affect attacking creatures do). It doesn't require a multi-card combo. It doesn't require seven mana, or even four mana. It covers every token, not just those that came into play via ETB effects, and not just ones that share names or colors. It doesn't require a particular color to be played. It's not even narrow, in that if tokens aren't a problem in a particular game state, it can be used to blow other things up. It can be re-bought more easily than any other card mentioned, if you feel like playing an Academy Ruins or a Sun Titan or especially a Glissa, the Traitor .
Downsides? It's dead to Steel Sabotage ?

Yeah, Ratchet Bomb and Engineered Explosives are the best. The other suggestions are appreciated though. Thanks for the help. Unless you can find a 1 mana solution or something that is very strong, I think I'll be content with bomb and explosives.

If you read the description at the top you'd see I'm already using it, and yes, it is nice.

Sadly, under the new ruling the owner of a token is the one whose control it enters under, so I wouldn't gain control of the tokens.
