I'm exploring the world of simic for the sole reason of that my friends said it couldn't be done. Well that and after I started I playing simic that I learned that it is insanely fun to play. Master of drawrate my deck goes around drawing a million cards per turn. It's done very well so far vrs my friends and I'm looking into playing this at an FMN sometime.

I'm gonna have to agree with ChiefBell Simic is a fun build but it's not very competitive

How about this one? Still can't beat it consistantly no matter how much I try the matchup with different things. I don't play Esper / Mono Black though. Those are the toughest games for this deck.

One of the best builds I've run in to has been a Simic flash deck. If your opponent doesn't play anything on their turn, you flash your creatures in E.O.T

Simic can definitely be competitive; there is a god Simic Flash deck going around (example: http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=6280&d=236108), and I have made Top 4's at FNM with a couple different Simic decks, most recently My Prophet, Your Loss (Top 4 FNM) which takes some of the Green Devotion shell and mixes in Prophet of Kruphix for tempo, Master Biomancer to beef up all the little dorks, Cyclonic Rift for an awesome win con, and way more draw power than MGD or GR thanks to Prime Speaker Zegana and Jace, Architect of Thought . You can also take the MUD shell and add in Biomancer for an awesome combo with Master of Waves and to buff up all the cheapy flyers

However, there are definitely some pitfalls that a lot of Simic decks fall into that might lend to its stereotype of being noncompetitive, here are a few ways to avoid them:

1) Don't try to do everything: A lot of Simic decks seem to try to incorporate big creatures with a lot of counterspells, some ramp, etc. etc. It sounds great at first, but in reality, you'll find yourself choosing between playing fatties ahead of the curve or holding back for counterspells; you can't do both at once. The Flash deck does it well because it can react to the opponent before choosing to play a creature, but cases where you're not stacked with Flash creatures, you're better off going for either a straight control or creature-heavy approach.

2) Evolve is a nice mechanic, but not a viable archetype: Some Evolve creatures are good, like Cloudfin Raptor and Experiment One . However, many people seem to equate Simic with this mechanic, which baffles me since you never see other guilds trying to use a preconstructed-deck mechanic as their backbone. With too much Evolve, you won't have enough creatures that have an immediate impact on the board or can do work individually, which has its downfalls in both aggro and control matchups.

3) Beat Supreme Verdict and spot removal with card advantage: Neither Green nor Blue has an answer for Verdict, and since you probably won't outrace it a la RDW, that means you have to have a backup plan to refill your hand. Luckily, there are some great options in these colors, including Garruk, Caller of Beasts , Jace, Architect of Thought , Prime Speaker Zegana , and Bident of Thassa . The same applies to beating spot removal, such as that found in MBD. Rather than wait around until you have enough mana to play a threat and have a counter ready, put pressure on them to remove early threats and then draw some more so they can't keep up.

ChrisHansonBiomancin I just have to ask, did you look at the deck? It's a take on the Simic Flash deck going around with the addition of Master Biomancer and Master of Waves . It's been doing pretty well in the testing ive done on untap.un. The only hard match up ive had so far was Esper Control

@Dalektable: Yes i did, sorry that previous comment was mostly directed at the comments about it being impossible to make Simis competitive. It looks pretty good, seems to follow most of the rules I laid out lol. As you might be able to guess from my previous comment, my biggest advice would be to add in some draw power to the mainboard such as the cards I listed above, which should help against Esper. To make room, Cyclonic Rift could probably be trimmed down since Overloading it seems unlikely here, and Rapid Hybridization as well since a lot of the creatures here would have problems with a 3/3 and that card is really only useful against midrange anyways.

I'm not sure how much it would play like the Flash deck with only 3 counterspells and 10 Flash creatures (not counting Prophet of Kruphix of course), but it definitely seems a little more aggressive so you really don't want too many counters. If you find it too in between for your tastes, you might consider adding more Flash & counters or go the other way and add in more power like Polukranos, World Eater , or even a heavier Blue Devotion angle.
