Hello, i recently got really hooked on magic after playing draft a few days ago (and i won - cheers!). i played with a Golgari deck which performed pretty welll in the draft, but that was mainly because the majority of the others had worse decks.but out of draft my golgari deck seems pretty weak compared to some of the decks my buddies own.So i need help to make a pretty solid deck for an ok price. i have some cards that may be interesting for building a deck:1x Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord(1x Lotleth troll) - this one i gotta trade a foil slime moldling + a korozda guildmage for1x Jarads order1x Detention sphere1x Martial law

Those are my rares.so uh any responses are highly appreciated, if there is any information i forgot to give you, then please ask, and ill answer you asap.

Well firstly, do you like fast or slow gameplay? That'll help you decide the focus of the deck which you will want to have most of your cards relate to.

Slow. I dont mind fast gameplay but i enjoy slower gameplay moreAlthough i think something inbetween would be better.also im not sure what the standard of slow gameplay, and fast gameplay is.

Fast gameplay is usually decks that are built aggro or burn, both of which deal massive damage very quickly. A lot of well-built burn decks have won games in 3-6 turns. Slow gameplay is most definitely control, not sure if there're any others. Just about every other type is somewhere in between. From what you've seen, what 2 or 3 colors have the most interesting keywords to you? Keywords being stuff like Counter, Infect, Trample, Lifelink, etc.

Well for now i think 2 colors is what im looking at.im not sure if its just a feeling but, i feel 3 colored is a bit more advanced, or expensive.I like golgari's scavenge, and grave usage. lifelink is a nice bonus, but i dont wanna build my deck around it - Infect is pretty cool but i dont think i wanna build my deck around it - so i guess im aiming for something with scavenge, grave usage, and counters etc.Basically what Golgari seemed alot about. When i played golgari i felt i got shutdowned alot by spells and instants.I'm sorry i dont know the specific names of the cards that were generally a problem, but it were spells that just shut my important creature down. also i felt that i lacked surprises, like insants, or kill target creature, etc. i had 1x Giant Growth which worked wonders. But i should also look out for not getting too many spells so i wont get any creatures.

Well, in that case, black/green would probably be best if you like how Golgari works. However, this prevents you from using blue counterspells. There are some low drop greens that let you prevent spells from being countered, such as Vexing Shusher or Cavern of Souls will help keep your creatures coming.

If you go with Cavern of Souls, you'll want to center on a single creature type for it to be most effective. However, if you get multiple ones, you can keep multiple creature types safe.

Allright, i have some things to add before i go.1st. a Gravecrawler + Lotleth Troll maybe with Corpsejack Menace as core creatures looks pretty good.2nd. i can trade my Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord for Vraska the unseen.Roger over and out - im off to bed.ill be back to check tomorrow morning.

Yeah, since a lot of Golgari is focused on Zombies, a single Cavern of Souls would do the trick, they can be expensive to acquire. However I would reccomend getting 4 if you could.

If you are sticking to golgari zombies then Slitherhead is good choice especially if Lotleth Troll is on the field. Also card:Ghoulcaller's Chant brings two zombies back to hand for one swamp to either play or discard for lotleth troll. Also Primordial Hydra goes great with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord sac ability.

hmm allright. do you think i should trade my Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord , For a Vraska the Unseen ?which would be better for my upcoming deck, keep in mind that as it looks now i will have to choose 1 of those, and i will only be able to have a single of them in my deck.

Also, i dont really feel like buying too many singles, so i wanna get most of my cards trough opening packs/boxes, and trading.Which boosters boxes would be the best to buy? Currently i think a M13 Deck builders toolkit + 4 return to ravnica boosters looks pretty solid, but maybe i should change the 4 boosters to another series? maybe innistrad?

Also keep in mind that my current deck has 0 land, since i borrowed some at the draft, therefore the deck builders toolkit with a 100 lands seems pretty useful.Any tips?

btw, getting singles might be alot cheaper, but since i just started playing magic i think it would ruin the experience a bit just to buy the right combination of singles.therefore i have this thread up kind of like a list of everything i need, and if im having a too hard time getting certain cards, ill just order them as singles by then, but for now im going to count on my luck.

Scavenge creatures are in return to ravnica, so start there. Land is the last thing to worry about unless you need double lands or shock lands. So stick to mostly return to ravnica, but you should check out all the other green/black cards in standard. So look up the cards in innistrad, dark ascension, avacyns restored, and m13. Each of those have some cards which would be helpful. Don't restrict yourself to just return to ravnica, but it is a good starting place if you like the golgari and scavenge.
