Lighthouse in Grixis?
Deck Help forum

Alright, so, I ended up kicking Think Twice out of my Grixis midrange-aggro (at least, that's what I think it is) in favor of some Skullcrack s. My question for you fine folks is do you think I could spare two colored mana for a couple of Desolate Lighthouse s? I don't want to mess up my base, but the extra draw when I need it would be nice.
This is the deck: The Power of a Dragon
The deck itself is very scatterbrained. There's no need for anything that costs over 4 in that deck, as you could easily win by the time you could cast Niv-Mizzet or Bolas.
Desolate Lighthouse doesn't net you card-advantage, but it can give you value. Technically speaking, you're never going to get ahead on cards by using it, but you can improve the usefulness and quality of the cards you do have by using it.
However, a good deal of the cards in this deck need very specific colors of mana in order to be cast. I wouldn't use it unless you build it as control.

I could win by then, but I like having emergency omg-need-big-guy-now. Yes, half the time I throw Niv or Bolas away with Reforge the Soul, but against Jace or Tamyo, Bolas kills and Niv is card advantage. Running just two gives them to me right when I need them. Anything you would replace them with out of curiosity? Please nothing that's over ten dollars in value, I have extremely limited funds...

But the thing about trying to play both Aggro and Control in the same deck is that either strategy will dominate you if you play against one or the other. Straight Aggro will overrun you since some of your cards are slower, and straight control would outlast you since your other cards are too small but don't have enough to keep consistent pressure going.
I would just make the deck either R/B aggro or R/U aggro, for stability's sake.

Most agree that straight up aggro requires things like Thundermaw Hellkite and Hellrider , not to mention Stromkirk Noble , all of which are far out of my reach. Grixis is more my style and I'm not concerned if I don't go 4/0. If I can win one or two, I'm happy. Most everything in it was traded, pulled from fnm winnings, or given to me by friends.

Those aren't required, especially if you don't want to spend the money for those cards. You can easily build a respectable RDW for $20 total in this format. You just have to know where to look and what to play.

Plus, I tend to be very anti-netdeck. Even borrowing a legacy deck for a tourney because I didn't have one felt wrong. RDW may win, but literally everyone that isn't playing control is playing it. I'm switching to this because everyone started playing green/white when I was doing it before it was cool.
Oh, and to the comments about the lighthouse, thanks, that's what I was thinking too, but I have some laying around and was curious. :)

Joke post?
Have you looked at a top 16 or top 32 list recently?

Talking about the fnm here. Locally, either you run RDW, America Control, or Reannimator...craziness. So I try to spice up my games by playing something different.
Also, the deck did great tonight. :) Threw in some Hands of Binding for some extra cipher for the funzies combo, and boy did it help. Even held off RDW, which I'm very proud of. Counterflux dealt with big problems, and most things I bounced back rom pretty quickly.

Remember that Desolate Lighthouse doesn't give you card advantage. It filters the "bad" cards out of your hand, but you don't gain a card when you activate the effect.
That being said, you seem to have a lot of cards with highly specific mana costs, so you should probably keep all of the colored mana you can get.
