Lorescale Coatl

Deck Help forum

Hello Tappedouters.

I've been on this subject way to often, to the point that I think my vision is skewed. I've always wanted to make a Lorescale Coatl deck. It would not be for competitive play: I typically play in a casual setting that has no card restrictions, and the competition is generally light, aside from an elf deck and a discard deck.

So I want to make this card my win condition in a deck. He's good, but he's slow - thus, he's competitively stunted. The deck can be anything that features him as the win condition.

I went through various archetypes, sloppily throwing decklists together. I think that he's best suited for a pure control shell, a turbofog-style deck, or possibly an Opposition deck.

Can anyone help me out here? Can anyone shine a light on this subject and help me make my dream deck?

I would go for a G/U deck that tries to add in a lot of extra draws per turn. Howling Mine , Overbeing of Myth , Mulldrifter , Rites of Flourishing , aiming to get the Coatl down and then keep drawing cards. Focusing on cantrip spells might also help.

Maybe run Steady Progress . Instant speed two counters per coatl, plus card draw isn't bad. But yeah, as SpammyV said, every turn card draw is good, and the ones that make your opponents draw too are actually even better in a casual multiplayer format: everyone's going to keep you alive for the extra draws, while your creatures just keep getting bigger.

Tezzeret's Gambit is better than progress imo

Putting Forced Adaptation on Fathom Mage for 2 draws guaranteed every turn for pumping it up.

You might want to build it as a sort of Miracle-Gro deck a la Quirion Dryad .

Stick it in with a bunch of cantrips, especially Brainstorm , a few counterspells to protect your coatls and then you can quite happily go to town.

Other cards which you may want to consider include Teferi's Puzzle Box and if you want to play around with proxies or similar Sylvan Library or JTMS are classic cards.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I swear I'll have at least 5 different decks by the time I think I'm done.
