Mindbreak Trap vs. Flusterstorm

Deck Help forum

I was making 12 post legacy and then was wondering:

Would I put in Mindbreak Trap or Flusterstorm against storm? What other uses do these spells have to be sideboard material?

What's your opinion?

Cloudpost banned in modern? Bitch please. if you're curious.

It really depends, Maybe Flusterstorm will do you more good, as it can counter that T1 Dark Ritual if you really need it. The Mindbreak Trap however is useful even as the game progresses. I would probably go with Mindbreak Trap as that rids you of all the copies for sure.

exile is boss.

The main benefit of Flusterstorm over Mindbreak Trap is that Flusterstorm puts multiple copies of the spell on the stack, so where Mindbreak Trap could be dealt with by a single counterspell, Flusterstorm cannot.

Don't some storm decks have a way of generating infinite mana?

Not that I'm aware of. They basically cycle through cantrips and rituals until they can get a Pyromancer Ascension online which then gives them more cantrips and rituals to keep going until they hit their win con (Grapeshot or Empty the Warrens ). They might have a lot of extra mana at the end of it, but they can't really go infinite.

Mine can ;) but then I built Weirdstorm. Exile is reallllly important though and I am far more afraid of Mindbreak Trap than I am of Flusterstorm .

This is what I got so far:

Mindbreak Trap is free if used against storm.

Flusterstorm isn't countered as easily as Mindbreak Trap is.

Some people can generate infinite mana to counter Flusterstorm

Mindbreak Trap exiles.

Each of them have their advantages, don't they.

I also realized that Flusterstorm can counter other counterspells.

Any more ideas on which is better?

Legacy Weirdstorm is my legacy version. Linked the modern one but the only real difference is Brainstorm , Preordain , and Ponder .

Mindbreak Trap exiles spells from the stack, letting you effectively counter things like Supreme Verdict and Abrupt Decay .

Nothing else matters.

I agree with zandl. Mindbreak Trap is better because it can counter uncounterables, and also because in any situation you are likely to use it, it will be free.

But Mindbreak Trap can be countered with a single Force of Will .

I think it really depends on what you're using it for though. For now, I will just use Mindbreak Trap .

Mindbreak Trap is also free, meaning you don't need to have any mana open for it, which Flusterstorm cannot do.

Also, remember that Flusterstorm counters only instants and sorceries.

The only two relevant storm decks that you're likely to come across are A.N.T. and Belcher, neither of which run Force of Will . A.N.T. will scout your hand with Thoughtseize /Duress /Inquisition of Kozilek , but that's about their only solution to counterspells.

That being said, I think Mindbreak Trap is the stronger choice, especially since it can be used to stop Abrupt Decay .
