Mistcutter Hydra + Kiora's Follower

Deck Help forum

A friend who has been playing for a while Deck Tech'd a Simic Deck i was thinking of running and pointed something out and I wanted to check.

He said that Kiora's Follower could not be used to untap a tapped Mistcutter Hydra because it has protection from blue and Kiora's Follower has 1 blue mana in its CMC. I thought protection was from opponents permanents not your own. Please can someone clarify for me.

Thanks

Rules questions should be asked in Q&A. He is correct, protection applies to all sources with the given characteristic, including your own. Because Kiora's Follower targets, it can't target Mistcutter Hydra .

You may be thinking of hexproof, which only applies to opponents' spells.

protection stops all Damage, Enchanting, Blocking and Targeting (D.E.B.T) of a card from whatever source it's protected from. Kiora's Follower cannot target the Hydra because it is pro blue.

WHAT?!?! You can't target your own creatures with protection? So like you can't throw Ethereal Armor on Stormbreath Dragon ? Dang, I did not know that :(
