Misthollow griffin

Deck Help forum

Any one got any ideas for a Misthollow Griffin deck? I think it could work with Gloom Surgeon , the few decent flashback cards between blue, black and maybe a third color which i could use in conjunction with Runic Repetition . though i'm not sure which color to go with.

or i could just run it with sembelance-anvil, Moorland Haunt and a bunch of creatures ...

As soon as you cast Misthollow Griffin from exile, Semblance Anvil will no longer have any effect - there is no exiled card it can interact with any more. Bad combo is bad.

I think despite cards like Surgical Extraction , Gloom Surgeon and Moorland Haunt , there is no combo in standard that makes him playable.

If you want to abuse Misthollow Griffin you have to use it with Food Chain in EDH or something. It's not really great in Standard since there's a clear lack of exile effects for it. You aren't going to Oblivion Ring it or imprint it yourself and your opponent won't do it either and waste his or her resources.

O-ring would be very illogical but the Surgical Extraction idea could render it a more expensive version of Squadron Hawk just half as efficient and twice as pointless lol. except that it's re-useable

its just weird...

I like the idea of a Gloom Surgeon + Misthollow Griffin beatdown deck, in fact I'm going to have a crack at making a deck around it and possibly build it on Magic Online. One moment...

Gloom Surgeon is a bit fragile - it still dies to every removal spell in the format short of Doom Blade . You'll need to strengthen the rest of the deck to make up for that.

Heres a deck I whipped up for Misthollow Griffin stuff.

Where the hell did that come from?

Except that eventually you start exiling lands...and can't cast it at all.

Wait...I'm dumb. You can on any upkeep sacrifice Descent into Madness

I've mulled this over and i reckon Runic Repetition could retrieve cards like Army of the Damned or Increasing Devotion under a control shell as a definitive win-con

Ponder could set up what you want to lose with the surgeon and Gitaxian Probe could make sure cards like Surgical Extraction and Memoricide could hit cards in an opponent's hand as well as the grave and library. if you want to target your opponent

then again i could just be far too optimistic for my own good

A gloom sergeon + misthollow griffin is doable, but a deck couldn't really be built around it. It would require alot of deck manipulation to esure that misthollow was one of the cards exiled by gloom surgeons ability. Perhaps a B/U control deck could run the combo as a viable threat. I like the idea of an esper flashback centered deck using runic repetition and descent into madness as well as misthollow griffin and gloom surgeon. Ill throw together a few brews and get back to you guys later!
