Modern Conversion

Deck Help forum

My current Standard deck is Extortionists with Sniper Rifles. I really like the deck and the combination of colors it uses. What I'd like to do is be able to switch cards in and out to make the deck as Modern-competitive as possible, essentially having a modular deck that can have cards switched back and forth depending on the type of tournament I'm playing in. My question is, what are some good cards to add to this? I'm not well versed in strong Modern-legal cards and I could really use some input. Thanks!

Modern is a fast-paced and pretty brutal format. If you want to build a deck that can play in both Standard and Modern, you'll probably end up with a deck that is a star in neither.

Extort and your creature choices are a bit slow in general for use in the Modern environment. I'm not really even sure how you'd go about modifying the deck. You'll need to be able to beat Jund, Pod, Scapeshift, and Affinity because those are the biggest decks in Modern right now.

Ok, I guess that makes sense. Thanks for the feedback Epochalyptik. I tend to like decks that are a little off the wall and goofy/janky. If you have any input on what a potentially viable Modern archetype that is close to that mold would be I'd be interested to hear about it/look into it as I'd like to get into Modern if at all possible. Thanks.

Check the decklists on SCG. They're a good indicator of what's at the top of the format.

@Epocalyptik

WUR Control/Midrange has taken over the format recently, Jund and Birthing pod are played as well. There are many archtypes that currently viable. Check mtgslavation as well.

In order to compete with the combo decks you have to run 3-4 Thoughtseize . Also run Dark Confidant and Tidehollow Sculler and Lightning Bolt .
