Modern Decks?

Deck Help forum

I have been playing standard for a while. It is getting really boring, so i want to move to modern. But I do not know what it good in modern. So I need some ideas for some semi-budget decks. P.S. i dont want to build anything with TarmogoyfMTG Card: Tarmogoyfs.

Look for mono-colored decks. Modern is inherently expensive because of the mana base (shock lands).

Look at mono white or green. There are plenty of budget options in those colors that are half way competitive.

From what I have heard, shocks will be reprinted in m13. I'd wait until then (that's what I'm doing) because they will most likely be significantly cheaper then.

White weenie/Soul sister variants are pretty hot right now, although the cards for Soul sisters have gone up a bit the past few weeks (i.e. Proclamation of RebirthMTG Card: Proclamation of Rebirth went from like 50 cents to 10 dollars). I'm working on a Death and Taxes/ Hate Bear deck myself. RDW is fairly successful, although I recommend splashing green to deal with Leyline of SanctityMTG Card: Leyline of Sanctity, and on that note Dungrove ElderMTG Card: Dungrove Elder is a fine card to build with.

Do you have a cite on the shocklands? (just because I want them) The cheapest deck is probably matyrs, but you can also look at U/W tron or Meliera pod for other top tier decks without tarmogoyfs.

No, sorry. I was told about it the other night on cokitrice.

oh well, was worth asking. People start talking about possible reprintings every time they come out with a new block/core set... Though, there might be some merit to it because wizard has said that they are going to reprint modern and legacy staples.

Another Top Tier deck is Angry Robots, basically Affinity and Tempered Steel having a baby. It wins consistently on Turn 4 and had two copies in last weekend's Grand Prix Lincoln Top 8. It is cheap, it has no shocks, the most expensive cards in the deck are the Mox OpalMTG Card: Mox Opals and Arcbound RavagerMTG Card: Arcbound Ravagers. Another good aspect of the deck is that the deck uses multiple cards from Standard Tempered Steel, so you can get added value out of your modern deck as a standard deck.

That's why I believed it.

They seem to want to push Modern and if they really want modern pushed, they are going to have to reprint the land base in order for people to be able to afford to get into it.

I have heard (but not confirmed) the next set is in ravinica, which would mean the reprint would be likely to happen there, not the core sets.

I have heard that rumor as well. It might just be a rumor but I guess we will see. It was a fun set for sure.

Wizards has said(unofficially) the next block will not be a revisit of Ravinica.

Any other ideas of what it will be? Any speculation?

I'm not one to speculate, unless I have something to base my speculations upon.
