So, ive always wanted to make a vampire deck and ive only really ever found several cards that i would want to have in the deck. I know a lot of vampires are red as of late, but i really am just not into playing red. So are there certain cards that are must haves in a mono black vampire deck?

the cards i want in my deck so far that im sure of is Vampire Nighthawk, Bloodline Keeper, Anowon, the ruin sage, Bloodghast, Captivating Vampire, stuff like that.

I think i have a good handle on the creatures i want to put into the deck, but i dont have a clue what to do for other spells, or even land. maybe some cards that can mana ramp for mono black? besides liliana? and any enchantments/ sorcery/ instants to help me have an awesome field presence or even get rid of their field presence?

And one more question, nothing to do with vampires, but i dont remember how to highlight my cards in this post. Like when you do it underlines the name and turns it blue so you can look at it. I havnt been on in a while and forgot how to do it. if you could help with that, that would be awesoe. thanks

but in modern, i wouldnt have it as a standard deck. Standard as it seems to me is too pricey to keep up with all the sets that come out. I know that there are a TON of old mono black vampires. I just cant have like 35 creatures and 25 land. i need some kind of spells or something to go with.

Black red really is the best. However, if you're dead set on mono-black, you absolutely need Vampire Nocturnus . Made a link by using the "And" at the beginning and end of the card. Dark Ritual is a decent ramp for mana, but only last for one turn. one combo I've always liked it the Sanguine Bond / Exquisite Blood combo. Not vampire specific, but really gets the job done.

hmm... you make a card a link by using double [ before a card and double ] after a card name...

thank you. and i do love that combo too. just auto game win unless they pull a fog if its combat damage. but if you have Sorin Markov out, they cant really do anything about it. Thats my favorite combo of all time.

Bloodline Keeper, Captivating Vampire and Anowon are way too slow. Drop them. Yeah, I know they're pretty cool, but the question you need to ask yourself is what kind of archetype you can achieve with mono-black tribal deck, and lemme tell ya, MB vampires are a lot better at aggro than at control. In fact, I think they have some of the most cost-effective tribal cards in the whole modern metagame that enables you to effectively keep up the tempo.

Three absolute essentials to be used here are Gatekeeper of Malakir, Vampire Nocturnus and Vampire Nighthawk. Urge to Feed and Feast of Blood are nice spot removals but the latter is sorcery-speed and a bit finicky. Use lotsa cheap creatures like Guul Draz Vampire and Pulse Tracker, or maybe even Vampire Lacerator if you want to get daring. Bloodghast is very powerful and recursive card, meaning you can turn that disappointing late-game land drop to your advantage. They're very good, but rare to find and somewhat expensive. Vampire Hexmage is a solid choice as well. For two mana, a 2/1 first striker that can hose any plainswalker (or any counter-based permanent, for that matter) at instant speed is not a bad deal. Kalastria Highborn is an annoying card to play against since you can use it to punish any opponent that tries to kill your vampires.

For more budget-friendly cards, you could try Vampire Interloper and Child of Night.

Spice the rest the way you prefer: Blood Artist comboes nicely with Kalastria Highborn if you want to get more out of life leech. In case want to splash in some red, then you can take an occasional stroll to the control lane by adding Olivia Voldaren or make your aggro more powerful with Stromkirk Captain. These cards are R/B, so they work well with Vampire Nocturnus. If you prefer staying completely mono-black, Lashwrithe is extremely powerful in any aggro deck, especially one that packs Vampire Nighthawk. If you feel insecure, add a fourth removal card into your sideboard - some generally useful instant like Tragic Slip, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat or Dismember. Don't waste your time trying to stabilize all that much. Vampires are best when they're used for a quick, overwhelming beatdown and their cards usually enable you to keep up with the tempo quite nicely.
