Need answers to mono blue devotion

Deck Help forum

i have a black white deck that runs stuff like Obzedat, Ghost Council , Blood Baron of Vizkopa , Elspeth, Sun's Champion , and some other black white things. i have a good sideboard with good answers to my deck's weaknesses, and my only problem is when i face mono blue devotion. i can't keep up with the aggro and all of the counters. yes i have deck/hand disruption with Thoughtseize in the maindeck and some Duress in the sideboard but i need a good solid answer to mono blue that i can stick into my sideboard. i have set aside three spots for this answer to mono blue devotion. ive thought long and hard but there is nothing that comes to my mind that just stomps all over mono blue and i need suggestions to help me and my black white deck.

Go Esper for answer's like Detention Sphere , Supreme Verdict and Sphinx's Revelation , not to mention siding cards like Gainsay just for that kind of match-up.

You should already have plenty of answer's to Master of Waves via all the black options, which is half of what makes mono-blue good, and you have access to win-cons like Elspeth, Sun's Champion and Blood Baron of Vizkopa , Ghost Dad is cool but being legendary can make it a long ride, I've had great success letting multiple Blood Barons hit the field against my opponent's at FNM recently, once you land one and nothing happens you can safely drop another and proceed to completely outrace them by gaining back plenty of life while swinging, usually unblocked, for mass damage.

Much like a RDW, running excessive hand disruption in the form of Thoughtseize can prove to be an expensive luxury when they are swinging for mass damage like an aggro deck and your helping them along by taking two damage to remove a Frostburn Weird or Tidebinder Mage while they smack you with the spare copy they already cast. My point is try not to lean on a card like Thoughtseize in an aggro match-up, which sounds strange when describing a mono-blue deck but it's true.

I like the Illness in the Ranks Maxon, and Behgz i forgot to mention that I also have Whip of Erebos in the deck so i can bring back Ghost Dad in case something happns to him and yeah I do have answers to Master of Waves but once i Doom Blade him then i have all of those tokens to worry about. But like Maxon said Illness in the Ranks should take care of them. Thanks for your help guys! i really appreciate it.

Without Master of Waves , all the tokens die unless something else is boosting their toughness. You can try boarding in more aggro and attempting to race. With all of the removal you at your disposal, you can hopefully keep them off of their devotion long enough to win.

the trick to dealing with mono blue, more so than other mono devotion decks I think, is to keep their devotion down. If you can avoid having Thassa, God of the Sea become a creature then you slow them down a lot. Its the fact that they can make her and other things unblockable that really puts you on a clock, as Thassa alone will take only 4 turns to kill you. Without knowing your deck I'd suggest maybe more removal to add in. Doom Blade , Ultimate Price , and even Devour Flesh are good. Side in something like that to go with the removal package you already have so you can disrupt their board even more. Then you make sure you target the Frostburn Weird , Tidebinder Mage , and Nightveil Specter so you can hurt their devotion. Also since you have white, adding in enchantment or artifact hate can help too, it'll take out the bident, which hurts their devotion and keeps them from gaining outrageous card advantage.

Mono U hates Ratchet Bomb and cringe when it hits the field. I would run some in your SB for sure.

Sphere of Safety ?? You may not have many enchantments, but it can be enough to slow them down. Only thing I could think of that hasn't been mentioned. Good luck!
