Need help! Building G/W Elves (Modern)
Deck Help forum

Hey guys, I want to build a GW Elves deck for my girlfriend - she loves Elves in general, and she really only plays MTG with me, so I'm gonna make something that she can enjoy playing.
I know a lot of the best Elf cards are from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor etc. but I've only been playing since this summer, so I don't have anything pre-Scars of Mirrodin, and I don't really know anything about older blocks.
Any help is appreciated, just looking to put together a nice Modern deck this way. :) Thanks

Pure tribal preferably. I like the "Elf Wave" idea, busting out tons of smaller Elves that buff each other up, things along those lines. I've seen Rhys the Redeemed before and he seems like he'd be a good addition to the deck, but I don't know much else beyond him and Imperious Perfect .

Joraga Warcaller is a good aggro elf. Immaculate Magistrate works very well with it.
Ezuri, Renegade Leader and Copperhorn Scout are also pretty good.

Ooooh those are nice. Are there any white Elves? Or just the hybrid G/W? I guess I'd be supplementing green creatures with white enchantments/etc then, if there aren't.
And pardon me for sounding obtuse, but what exactly would the purpose of Copperhorn Scout 's ability be? Just to untap creatures that have tap abilities after you use them?

This is a list of white elves.
Copperhorn Scout allows most of your field to remain untapped for the purposes of blocking, buffing, etc. For example, it allows you to get two uses per turn out of an Immaculate Magistrate , which is devastating with Joraga Warcaller . It could also allow you to overrun several additional times if you have a field of mana-producing elves, attack with them, then untap them off the Copperhorn Scout's trigger and tap them again for mana for Ezuri, Renegade Leader 's ability.

Man, that does seem pretty useful considering the amount of tap abilities some of these elves have. Okay so now I have a good idea of what creatures I'm looking for, any suggestions for other spells? Instants/sorceries/enchantments/artifacts or the like.

Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers and Wilt-Leaf Liege are both good G/W elves.
As far as other spells:For removal, Oblivion Ring is always a good bet, as well as Path to Exile and Beast Within . For other stuff, I really like Beastmaster Ascension in creature-heavy decks. I would also consider putting in Gavony Township .

Nissa Revane and Genesis Wave .
Don't go too crazy on support spells. Elves can function very efficiently with a simple skeleton. Don't be too intent on throwing in a bunch of higher-cost stuff unless you know how it will be affecting the tempo of the deck.

Is Elvish Promenade worth adding in?Also I really like Nissa, and Genesis Wave too.
Question about Wilt-Leaf Liege 's abilities though: Do creatures with a hybrid mana cost and/or gold creatures benefit doubly from it? E.g. G/W hybrid costed elves or creatures with G and W in the mana cost, do they get +2/+2?

Elvish Promenade might be worth it.
Wilt-Leaf Liege does indeed give a double bonus to creatures which are both green and white.

Did you want to go pure tribal (elves only, nothing else), or use the elves to ramp into other creatures?
