I need help preparing for this casual mtg tournament at my school I like all strategies but i need to stay on low budget We're allowed to play any card so be free to say if you know some older but good cards and finally after analyzing the meta I realize a lot of decks have life gain, enchantments artifacts and occasionally annoying creatures (mother of runes) if anyone could help that'd be great.

Is there no banned or restricted list for this?

Go for a lot of removal options, a good enough choice could be a budgetish zoo variant or a tron variant. There is a great article about UW Tron on tcgplayer at http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=11702

I would play RDW. There are some nasty and relatively inexpensive RDW builds for modern and legacy. RDW isn't as reliable as any tier 1 deck, but it is a blast to play and should be perfect for a "casual tournament".

Something like this: Budget RDW

One issue with RDW is that you basically scoop to lifegain decks, which apparently there are some. I wish I went to a school that hosted these.

@OpenFire consider yourself lucky if you go to school with magic players, there are only a couple of players at my school, and they're all rather new, or use lots of un- cards, I don't want to talk about that madness, but until recently, they thought that one creature could block multiple, if that gives you any idea of there skill, and their decks look like they're sealed deck... it saddens me.

if you want to beat lifegain on a budget, go with, and note, this is not my deck, $5 Infect
