Need ideas for fun B/R deck

Deck Help forum

I need ideas for black red deck since i have a pretty sweet mana base, but no deck. Highest priority is that is needs to be really fun to play. Its a bonus if the deck could win a game or two..

By fun i mean unusual deck. I love decks that are played in unusual ways, like my Golgari dredge deck where i want to put my library in my graveyard as quickly as possible to make my creatures (Splinterfright ) bigger.

How creative could you be with black/red? Any suggestions?

I'm always a fan of unusual decks, but how unusual you can make a deck - in terms of combos, synergies, theme, etc - often depends upon what format the deck is for. Standard will generally be very limited compared to legacy/vintage, but a good amount of creativity goes a long way.

What I do if I want an unusual deck is try searching through random cards - generally using semi-related Google searches to get forum results, which often will include combos - that fit the format/color. When I see a card that looks interesting - or that makes me think, "Could a deck be built around this?" - then I try to roll with it and see what I can come up with.

I don't know if that helps you at all for coming up with your own ideas, but it is certainly how I come up with mine. Anywho, in terms of a B/R card suggestion you could try to build an unusual deck around, there's always Havoc Festival .

As a theme im kinda thinking about sacrificing creatures.. my own creatures that is.. And use the red as a splash for Act of Treason :). Could that work, and what cards benefits from being saced? Combos are always welcomed :)

I use to have a B/R deck that made their opponents draw a lot of cards with stuff like Howling Mine and Teferi's Puzzle Box and deal them damage with Underworld Dreams . My alternative win con was a turn 2 Phyrexian Obliterator with Dark Ritual , Which my friends didn't like too much.

That is pure evil. I like! Opponent loose life when drawing cards and i make him draw lots of cards. Genius :). Pretty devastating for control builds.. How could i use the red mana in this?

I would suggest my deck You have to choose, Batman. Fun and, occasionally, wins.

One fun way to sac creatures is to have Blood Artist + Tokens and drop Hellion Eruption . I run a similar BWG deck with a splash of red for the sole purpose of dropping Hellion.

If you want to run Act of Treason , you could always use that as a way to kill off an opponents fatties. A fun combo would be Act of Treason + Attrition /Bone Splinters

Although it's slow, if you needed tokens to sac you could run a Breeding Pit . Otherwise Eldrazi could help.

I'd suggest browsing through this list for ideas, since that's where I'm getting them from.

How does Howling Mine and Teferi's Puzzle Box play together? I, as the controller, choose in what order they resolve right?

I have a B/R discard themed deck that is very fun to play. It uses a combination of many 2/2 creatures like Hellhole Rats and Blazing Specter , Heartless Summoning to get them in cheap and lower their power to 1, and Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker to keep them around. And if I manage to also get out a Flayer of the Hatebound , I can use the trolly line I waited forever to use: "Hate the game, not the Flayer."

Basically it uses Liliana's Caress , Quest for the Nihil Stone , and Hellfire Mongrel type cards to take advantage of enemy discards. My favorite game ever with it ended by me Lightning Bolt ing my own Hellhole Rats so it would come back at the end of turn, cause a discard, and put out a lot more damage than the bolt would have done itself. It's not a very competitive deck, but it's awesome to play.

@smackjack, It was such a long time ago that i can't actually remember what the card names were, but i remember i used a creature who cost B, for a 1/1 that did the same thing as Underworld Dreams so long as you control a red permanent. Which i just used a hybrid card. The other one was a sick red card that had some sick drawing effect, i think it was each player draws 3 cards for 2 or 3 mana.

And yeah, you are right about the Howling Mine , Teferi's Puzzle Box question. It's just whichever one they wanna do first.

Awesome suggestions! Psychosis Crawler is perfect card to top the mana curve..

The crawler would actually die if the puzzle box was in play.

Actually no it doesn't. The whole effect has to resolve for the crawler to change its state. So psychosis crawler wont change (or not change in the case of the effect) until after you have drawn a new hand.
