Net Deck vs. Homebrew

Deck Help forum

So in a competitive setting, I have had a little success when homebrewing, however, I feel it really sucks that if you want to win, you have to go net deck, now I'm not saying I'm above it, because I'm not now (though I was when I first started playing xD), however I have always enjoyed the satisfaction of winning with a deck that was built from scratch, from your brain, with no outside help other than constructive criticism, but how does the meta look for homebrews in Theros? How viable do people think little rinky dink decks like slapped together RDW and Gruul rush are? How are budget decks going to handle against the "tier 1" decks?

And just to clarify, this is just for discussion purposes, I am running a B/W Rock that I intend to win with, I just want to know the general consensus.

For the first month, RDW and Gruul Aggro are going to dominate due to everyone trying to figure out the next "Netdeck." The speed and aggressiveness just comes at a surprise, but smart people will expect them and sideboard against them.

I am thinking about even mainboarding things like Blind Obedience against them just because no haste for you

Probably your best bet alongside some cheap removal.

I think it should be said that many folks simply accept that they are better players than deck builders, the skills are not always inclusive of each other.

Rotations are a decent time to try rogue strategies, but as Cobthecobbler mentioned any deck needs to be prepared for an early onslaught. Usually aggro is the first out the gate as it's arguably the easiest to build, run the strongest creatures in the CMC slots. Once their speed has been established, then the mid-range and control decks know how much removal they need to be mainboarding and they can start to sprout up.

This is very true, so do you think it is a little silly for me to be playing mid range out of the gate? Also I am thinking of building a Gruul just because it is so viable right now xD, get some wins out of it for a month then play a real deck haha

I don't think its un reasonable playing a mid range deck if it's something like this. Out the gate.
