New EDH Player, Advice Needed

Deck Help forum

Hello, I'm working on my first EDH deck and I have an idea of what I'd like to do but since I've only recently gotten back in to MTG after many years of not playing, I need some ideas/help.

I've chosen Phelddagrif as my commander and this is what I would like to do: I want a group hug deck that also has cards in it that will punish the heck out of anyone that comes at me. Political in a way that people would be hesistant to mess with me because they know that I could pull some messed up stuff on them but at the same time be able to help everyone else out.

Here's my deck in progress, I've been doing a lot of researching of other Phelddagrif decks.

Phelddagrif (1st EDH deck)

(And I know that some of the cards listed in my deck don't exactly fit with what I just described)

So to sum up, I'm primarily looking for card suggestions for a Phelddagrif political deck for a new EDH player.

Thanks in advance!

This should be in Deck Help. Epochalyptik?

The thing is, Group Hug is, in its entirety, a politics deck. You are making people reluctant to hit you because they like you. Also making them hate or fear you is counterproductive and kinda puts you at square one, or worse. I'd focus on one or the other.

erabel, yes that makes sense, I guess I'll just go group hug and see how it goes and tweak it from there.

Thanks!

Anything that makes people pay to attack you like Propaganda or Norn's Annex . You'd be surprised how big of a target you can become if a particular play does a lot to help one player more than the rest. Also, the biggest mistake I've seen with new EDH players is you have to think bigger than you do in 60 card constructed.

The game plan that you are going for is the same one I follow for my own Phelddagrif group hug deck, since my play group tends to lean more towards aggressive/competitive side of game play. I decided to play a bunch of clone type creatures in my deck alongside spells like Rite of Replication and Spitting Image to capitalize on all the large creature that I help my opponents play.

My deck is Group Hug, The Friendly Hippo if you are interested in browsing the list. It's a deck that I've had lots of fun piloting.
