Deck Help forum

Hey guys(and girls), I was wondering if you guys could look at my blue deck from my page and give me some advice and improvement. I didn't have too many cards to choose from yet because I just started like last week. My cousin wants to sign up for FNM this Friday and I feel like I am going to get destroyed there.

so I took what I thought were your best cards and created a theme to work around your deck with, which was a cheap, aggro style deck that includes control either through enter the battlefield effects or Heroic effects. Heroic triggers are mostly featured by the Ordeals and also instant cards that will allow you to protect your creatures and throw your opponent offguard. Many of the cards I included come with secondary effects such as scry so I feel this deck is effective for its cost and provides a lot of flexibility and its fast.

Every permanent is blue to try and take advantage of Thassa and Master of Waves if you manage to find them. Ideally, you would want to use Battlewise Hoplite for early beats and early scries to try and fish out those cards and Ordeal of Thassa will help you get through the deck faster.

Cheap deck for Ecklament

Let me know if this fits your style or if you were looking for something else. I'll do my best to help. You should be able to build this deck fairly cheapyl assuming you have Thassa and Master of Waves and Jace already. All the other cards should cost less than 10 dollars to put together. As for competitiveness, you would have to test it out a bit and see how it works out ;)

Thanks for the help guys, I'll look into the new additions. Another question, if I can get a hold of some more Thassa's and more Master of the Waves what should I get rid of to replace them?

Up to you, I would say if you are moving into monoblue devotion we would want to try to keep it fairly aggro so most likely Wavecrash Triton would go first and then the next to go would be Gods Willing . After these 7 cards, if you get more pieces of the actual deck you want to build, I would rotate out Lyev Skyknight first and then Ordeal of Heliod .

After this, its up to you, most likely a balance between rotating out target creature spells and Battlewise Hoplite because you would be losing some synergy as you start removing more target creature spells. I do like the interactions between Battlewise Hoplite and the target creature cards and I'm hoping that's where the meat of your strategy currently will be derived from but you can only ride it out so much before allowing it to transform into the actual deck you want i.e. monoblue devotion.

Sounds good. Thank you so much for the advice, maybe I will be able to win a match or two now. haha. I am thinking about adding my other two decks on here to get rid of "bad" cards.

Haha well let us know how it turns out, I'm curious how competitive it can be. If it works out might make it easier to convince my friends to jump in and play more Standard constructed if we are able to string mostly commons and uncommons together into something competitive. I want to think card synergy can make up for lack of rares and mythics (of course given you aren't running into a hyper competitive shop or anything).

I hope that it won't be crazy competitive, I think it will be standard play which will help hopefully. I might pick up some Master of the Waves while there, we shall see.

I added two more decks, if you could look at them and give me some pointers on them that would be awesome. They aren't that good but I have only been playing for just over a week, they are my first three decks. Thanks for your time.
