New to MTG, Seeking Advice

Deck Help forum

Hey, thanks in advance for looking at this. I just started playing magic around 2 weeks ago (maybe a little more), and I really only get to play once a week with a bunch of experienced players. In the mean time, I've done tons and tons and tons of research, but theories and concepts will only get me so far. I've bought a few cheap decks I made myself already, but I'd really like to have a strong U/W control deck, since those are my two favorite colors, but I don't want to end up spending a bunch of money on a deck I designed to have it end up shit. So I'm just asking for advice on this specific deck: U/W AEtherling Control

I've never been able to playtest it against another deck, because I don't have all the cards I need, but I don't went to spend ~$150 on a deck that isn't great. It doesn't need to be pro level, but I'd like to feel confident showing up to a FNM with it (to which I've never been). Although I'm particularly worried about how the deck will deal with early aggression, I'd really just like any general advice on it. Thanks.

lol click on playtest on ur own deck, then pick any deck on this site and click playtest, alternate the two windows and playtest ur deck.

just looking at it, I think u might need to add some more creatures. Ima playtest it right now.

If your friends are ok with it, print out some proxies. I can fit 9 cards on a page, and it costs me $.10 to print out a page at my library (I'm not gonna devastate my ink cartridges...) which is just a penny a proxy. :) After I print them out, I put basic lands face down in card sleeves and put the proxy pages in front of them.

It lets you get an idea if there's something wrong somewhere without having to sacrifice your wallet. It also helps you identify what cards you still need for your deck.

Indeed, always proxy before you go and blow the money.

Also, I recommend you see if you can do some FNM drafts, Kharashi. It'll teach you a lot about playing the game and what cards are good and why.

AH FOR DRAFT PRACTICE, USE MTG FORGE.

That program is a gift from heaven.

Plus it's better than paying for a draft when you're more interested in practice.

Mmh, thanks a bunch for all the advice. I'll get to looking into all these things before I do anything serious.
