Deck Help forum

I want to build a grixis deck based around nicol bolas i own 3 of the creature card 3 planes walker i want to use them in a modern deck but i suck at designing anything over a 2 color deck but i want to hopefully get nicol bolas out turn 3/4 so mana ramp or some way to cheat him onto the board would be great

more likely you're going to want to go control, since there's very little that can cheat him in in grixis colors, keep in mind that if you want this to be good, you're going to have to put a lot of money into it, and at most, you'll only want 2 of each.

There are several ways to put creatures onto the battlefield without paying their mana cost, like Quicksilver Amulet and Unburial Rites . Most of them aren't in your colors. I don't know of a good way to cheat a planeswalker into play, and otherwise you'd have to ramp with three colors which isn't a good idea. On top of that, the B/R and B/U fetchlands aren't Modern legal, so the deck will already be slower.

Would my doomed necromancers work?

Doomed Necromancer works for the creature cards, but not the planeswalkers.

I would not recommend ramping into Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker . A control style deck would be much better. You can lock down your opponent until turn 8, where you can play Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker with ease.

Here is my modern Grixis control deck, if you want to see what I am talking about: Cruel and Unusual Grixis Control. It costs about $350, which is pretty cheap for a playable modern deck.

Goryo's Vengeance and Through the Breach are good ways to cheat him out. Also, like mentioned before, Unburial Rites paired with Gifts Ungiven would be a nice way to bring ol' Nicol Bolas out permanently. I made a modern grixis deck based around cheating out Griselbrand and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn that you could check out and use to sort of mold your deck with if you'd like to.Heres' the deck: The Big Bang Attack!. Hope I was useful in some way :p

@tyforthevenom: Griselbrand is legal in Modern. It's not legal in Commander.

Building 12 decks simultaneously? Focus on one. It'll help a lot.Nicol Bolas is one good PW, but the 8 mana cost makes him BARELY playable. There's not much to cheat him out, and you might never go on to put him on. I would say toA. focus on one deck.B. Find that one card which cheats PW's.
