Nihil Spellbomb Contre
Deck Help forum

I need a way to consistently counter Nihil Spellbomb which my friends always run against my deck deck:what-gets-stronger-as-it-dies-see-description. Naturalize is hit and miss. I need something in standard with the feel of Declaration of Naught so that my entire deck doesn't die instantly when Nihil's drawn. Help me, please.

Naturalize can't be hit-and-miss unless their Nihil Spellbomb somehow became tapped and they can't activate its ability in response.
Mental Misstep can counter it while still maintaining enough flexibility to deal with other threats.
Stony Silence isn't in your colors, but it can prevent the Spellbomb from doing anything after it lands.

Phyrexian Revoker is an answer, although not a very reliable one sometimes. Steel Sabotage is a decent sideboard card, and of course like Epoch said, Mental Misstep .

Phyrexian Revoker has the benefit of being a body to add to the graveyard, which helps out the rest of your deck.

I would say your only options are stony silence because you can play it with the mana from birds it is either that or use phyrexian revoker before they play nihil spellbomb or mental misstep when they try to cast it like everyone else said or you could force them to pop it with naturalize or counter with mental misstep and use Surgical Extraction to get rid of any others before they have a chance to hit the field.

When I say Naturalize is unreliable I mean it's not a permanent so if they have more than one nihl I lose eventually anyway. Phyrexian Revoker is the best choice here I think.

Nevermore will also work here like Stony Silence though they're both white. I'd run Naturalize and Steel Sabotage if you're looking to just stay in U/G.

Also, a card that works the same way and has a broader range of uses, but sees zero play, is Witchbane Orb . They can't target you with the spellbomb, so it makes it useless. It also stops burn, hand disruption, any curses (Curse of Death's Hold , pretty much]], and pretty much acts as a slower Leyline of Sanctity .
