Which one would make a better general, Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius or Melek, Izzet Paragon ? If you want to see what type of deck I am referring them to, take a look at my deck, Izzet What You Hoped For?

For your deck, Melek, Izzet Paragon is best. Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius isn't a great commander, especially compared to Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind who is combo-licous to say the least. coughCuriosity and Mindmoil cough

Depends on what you're going for. The Dracogenius is much more likely to get you wins via commander damage. Melek is better geared for an instant/sorcery deck with lots of burn and counters. Personally, I think a deck built around Dracogenius would be more competitive. Another option is Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind .

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind is great, but he attracts a lot of hate. he is better 1v1 than in groups. besides, infinite combos are generally frowned upon in EDH. Anyway, I run the new Dragon as my commander, and find him to be much better than melek. he provides consistent card draw and a very fun card. he really doesn't attract any hate in group play, as he is well balanced and very fair, where as melek can get out of hand very quickly. so again, my vote is for Nivy.

CommanderOfBolas makes a good point, but I disagree that infinite combos are "frowned upon." If your group is fine with infinites, then go for it, but be aware of what your playgroup thinks is appropriate.

JWiley129: You are right, but EDH is a casual format, and more often than not, people don't like that sort of thing. But if your playgroup is okay with it, go ahead. I personally don't like going infinite because I like to play magic, not lock my opponents out of the game (well...not in EDH anyway, as I do play control in every other format).

CommanderOfBolas - In my opinion, there is a difference between playing a prison deck, e.g. Capsize + Stasis , and winning with an infinite combo, e.g. Blue Sun's Zenith + Deadeye Navigator + Palinchron . One wins the game on the spot, the other stops everyone else from playing. I don't like prison decks, but I'm fine with infinites that win the turn they come down. But, to paraphrase, each group is different.
