No basic lands in deck bad?

Deck Help forum

I'm building a white and blue deck with no basic lands. All of them are special lands and most of them enter the battlefield not tapped. I have 25 lands in this deck. Would it be bad if I had no basic lands in my deck?

For what format and how competitive do you expect it to be?

no. as long as they have abilities that contribute to the deck or are duals, shocks, etc. they're fine. but we should see the deck to give a concrete answer

Depends on the format and deck. For instance, in modern it's often a good idea to have one or two in the deck just to keep Path to Exile honest. There's also cards like Price of Progress to consider if you're playing in a format with it. And Burning Earth is pretty common in standard these days.

In general though, it's not hugely necessary.

It's not unusual to have no basic lands in Standard right now.

For Modern, you need basic lands. It stops Ghost Quarter becoming Strip Mine , or Path to Exile becoming the best removal in the format, as well as letting you cast around Blood Moon , or uses your fetches to get basics when you don't want to bolt yourself.

In Legacy, there are some decks, like RUG Delver, that run no basics.

In standard, it use to be the norm but decks are running more basics now to play around burning earth.

Even in standard I ran two basics because Ghost Quarter was a thing in my meta.

Ok, looking at it, you'll want lands that come into play untapped, or potentially can. Such as shocks. That's just the way it is, because you're deck has a high cmc average, 4.40 according to this site, you won't be able to do much till turn 5, when by then you're dead or dieing in a a competitive environment or stuck being remanded or countered till the fights over.
