no love for the menace?

i've looked at dozens of competitive golgari decks. Half of them run Varolz, the Scar-Striped , most of them run Lotleth Troll as well as Dreg Mangler .
What I don't see is the mana-efficient Corpsejack Menace , or any Slitherhead (Lotleth's favorite card, even more awesome with CJM).
At worst, he'll draw out an opponent's removal spell (maybe a Hero's Downfall or Dark Betrayal ), then becomes an effecient scavenge from Varolz. CJM is immune to Doom Blade and Ultimate Price . Almost all Golgari decks sideboard Mistcutter Hydra and CJM makes him doubley-big!
What's not to love? Does he just not have enough immediate, same-play-turn impact?
I've never seen a Gaze of Granite in any online deck, and always wondered why, not even in a sideboard (golgari tends to be slow, and susceptible to cheap aggro swarms).
Here's what I've been looking at (crap, not sure how to link):

thewyzman, if you gone to mtgtop8.com go to the search link, on the left side, select standard then in the text box add in 'gaze of granite' you'll find a few decks that have run it in the past few months. Most are in dec.
to link use this format [ title ] ( url ) without spaces to get it nicely formatted.

Didn't know about that search feature on MtgTop8 either, good catch.

I'm trying to make a Golgari deck for myself that can withstand and outwit an outbreak of Mono-red and U/W control decks.

The only competitive golgari decks that I have seen in tournament results recently are MBD decks splashing green for Abrupt Decay and Gaze of Granite . +1/+1 counter synergy decks have never been successful in the competitive enviroment.
