One of those day-er... Weeks

So I've been in Standard since I've started magic, and It's still pretty fun. But a good friend of mine recently "Passed the Torch" on one of his elf decks to me, and it's pretty crazy... A multitude of combos and mana-ramps, i've had 24 elves on the field turn 4, or maybe 5, and 68 life... Now after experiencing that, maybe my standards are too high. But i want to make a GOOD (not even unbeatable or perfect and jaw-dropping) Modern deck. Thanks to one man on this website i was referenced to decks similar to the idea i'm trying to create, 4c Birthing Pod decks and Naya Pod decks. The only problems i have is just how expensive they are, and most involve only running 1 card of many different cards... So I've been trying to create a cheaper version of these decks, so far my idea is this; deck:modern-quick-combo. But i feel like i'm doing something wrong... I'd appreciate any help anybody is willing to give. Thanks for your time.
