Does protection from black, protect a creature from a card like black sun zenith that doesn't target a specific creature?

Protection follows the DEBT acronym:
Damage - All damage that would be dealt to a creature with protection from X by a source of quality X is prevented.
Enchant/Equip - A creature with protection from X cannot be enchanted or equipped by anything of quality X.
Blocking - A creature with protection from X cannot be blocked by a creature of quality X.
Targeting - A creature with protection from X cannot be targeted by a source of quality X.
Since card:Black Sun's Zenith doesn't do anything that protection prevents, it can and will still affect creatures with protection from black.

I was reading about this recently and I thought if the effect comes from a card that is black, it wont affect the creature which has protection from black?

@French_toast, No. Epochalyptik already answered the questions regarding it. Any spell, that doesn't target (key word) the creature with protection, still effects that creature, regardless of the color it's protected from.
Damnation and Black Sun Zenith DON'T TARGET any creatures, therefor those creatures still get affected by their effects. Targeting is "specifically choosing", and those spells don't choose anything.

It should be noted that while targeting is part of protection, damage is as well. For example, Slagstorm would not kill a creature with protection from red, even though it does not target.

no it does not. protection works with blocking and being targeted. board wipes (in general) don't target anything
