Poison-Tip Archer?

Deck Help forum

I've been tweaking my Negative Creep Modern deck for quite a while, and have all but decided to abandon Throne of the God-Pharaoh in favor of Poison-Tip Archer. Basically I'm seeking advice on whether it's worth bumping my avg CMC up with Archer, or if could/should focus on some other mechanic that exists in the deck already, by bumping up copies of something else. If I go with Archer, I'm likely going to put another copy of Black Sun's Zenith. I like that my build has many ways to win as-it-stands, so I don't really want to narrow that. At the same time, I realize that it may need more focus... any suggestions appreciated.

Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat exist so there is that. 4 mana cards in moderd usually have to win the game on the spot or be a leyline to be playable in compedetive

I would add a way for your deck to interact with the many creatureless decks in modern

Archer is showing promise. 4 isn't much of a stretch considering the amount of disruption this deck runs. The build tested very strong against artifacts over the weekend, Poison-Tip Archer sealed up game 2 when I dropped Soul Snuffers as a board wipe lite. I definitely like Archer more than Throne of the God-Pharaoh as Throne depends on creatures surviving combat intact, and also Throne is passive. Unless the 4cmc proves too slow against quicker decks, I'll likely keep 2x Archer in mainboard.

It's an intersesting deck and I do believe it is favored against creature aggro, but what will you do against turn 1 hollow ones and bridgevines, even more, how are you going to beat burn and UW and scapeshift and the like, you just have way too many dead cards against them. Have you thought of playing either Return to the Ranks or Rally the Ancestors with a sac outlet for a combo win to at least capitalize on when these decks stumble. The first 2 decks i mentioned probably aren't THAT bad of a matchup, but the point is that you do not have a good plan against decks like these. I don't know how popular they are in your meta, but mine is infested with combo decks like amulet titan and storm and tron, and then the rest of the meta is blue based control and blue based control brews.

Thanks for the discussion... you are correct in that my build doesn't fair well against Tron or Scapeshift... fortunately in my meta these are rare. Only one person plays Scapeshift that I know of (and his deck is loathed). I've thought about sideboarding Damping Sphere, but that's really the only thing within my color build that I can think of. I appreciate the two suggestions above, but I'm hoping to keep this Golgari (though I realize that Fate Transfer is both U and B). I'm probably overall about 60% against burn.

zulaport cutthroat and blood artist gain you life too, to me deathtouch and +1/+2 isnt worth 2 mana and no lifegain.

I used to run Blood Artist, but this build didn't really benefit from slow life-gain, and I guess I thought reducing opponent's life was preferable to gaining, if I had to choose one. The Archer is akin to Hapatra, in the sense that it is treated very much like an enchantment. Archer's ability is most useful with tons of tokens in play (which happens most of the time) and then dropping either Black Sun's Zenith (risky) or Soul Snuffers (less risky). Generally speaking, lifegain doesn't do much for this build, as it's either too quick to need it, or so slow that it's losing anyway.
