Deck Help forum

I'm working on a mono-blue and was curious if there is any removal or anything that can help with big threats on the board that an opponent might have. Thoughts???

Blue generally deals with threats by countering them before they are out, or else using things like Cyclonic Rift to clear them off the battlefield.

If this is standard, then Rapid Hybridization and Cyclonic Rift will usually be your go-to choices to deal with things on the board.

Yeah it's standard. I had Rapid Hybridization in mind and have Cyclonic Rift ! Is Curse of the Swine better than Rapid Hybridization ?

Swan Song is okay too, a 2/2 bird against all of Mono-blue is pretty nice. Though hybridization against creatures definitely

Well, Rapid Hybridization is instant speed, only one mana, and destroys (no regenerate). That's pretty good, but it leaves a fairly beefy creature behind, which probably isn't that big of a deal against mono blue. The Curse of the Swine is sorcery speed, but allows you to target more than one creature, exiles them instead of destroys (which can be very important), and gives a slightly less powerful creature when it's done.

Like a few people have said, Curse of the Swine is pretty nifty for Standard, especially since it exiles even their indestructible creatures.

Then if you truly want to infuriate your opponent, Ratchet Bomb the pigs.

Its not removal but more of control..Cyclonic Rift is the only thing i can think of to get around Protection from blue, but if it just a means of getting the big threat under control? Agoraphobia and Claustrophobia work wonders. You can minimize or tap down their biggest threat with those. Plus the former you can bounce around to the "biggest threat on the board" whichever that may be.

Cyclonic Rift is the best.

Voyage's End is another option if you like to scry.

And if for some crazy reason you don't like overloading or scrying, there's the crappy alternative Disperse .

Return to hand is often better than destruction because of those gods. It's also a great way to get your creatures to your hand if they've been stolen with Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver .

I would say Agoraphobia is better than Claustrophobia (they're both phobias) because you can get it back when you kill the creature or when there's a bigger threat, and then reuse it. If I weren't playing esper, and playing mono blue or azorius, I would go with Agoraphobia for early game stop until I can kill them.

Getting around protection from blue, as stated, requires board effects, which would be Cyclonic Rift or AEtherize .

As stated earlier, Ratchet Bomb is a great way to combo with the swine to kill their tokens, but it's also a good non-targeting non-blue death method, though only decent for tokens or low mana cost creatures.
