Replacement for Dark Ritual?
Deck Help forum

So I've got a Mono-Black (NON DEVOTION, FOR GOD'S SAKE) deck, and I really want to make it modern legal. The only illegal card in here is Dark Ritual , and I have no idea what would make a decent substitute. The deck plays fast and heavy, and I really like the card, but I don't want to Cabal Coffers or anything, because it's too slow. I need a fast card for mono black. Ideas?
tl;dr: fast replacement for Dark Ritual in modern.
Deck link for those who care: Blessed Perfection
Ps-My apologies if this is in the wrong section, move as desired.

Good thing u don't want to go the Cabal Coffers route because that card isn't modern legal anyway :)
the best replacement available to mono black is fetchlands such as Marsh Flats and Verdant Catacombs in addition to a T1 Deathrite Shaman . T2 playing a second land and exiling a fetch will give u 3 mana for casting things like Liliana of the Veil .

Ohh I like the fetchlands with DMS... If I ever get money, I'll probably do that. Thanks!

Dark ritual is modern legal now, so great news, you don;t need to replace anything at all :D However, you should still get the fetch lands if you wallet allows.

Ummm since when?
...a modern frame doesn't mean a modern legal card.

Dark ritual is not modern legal. It has not been printed (besides special sets) since mercadian masks

Jaredsroy: Dark Ritual is not legal in modern. Here is the legality of Dark Ritual in sanctioned formats (scroll down).
Fetches and Deathrite Shaman is really your best bet for T2/3 ramp in mono black.

You can go to the card on here, and it will tell you what formats it is legal in.
Hope that helps you out.

First of all, thank very much, I think I now understand this. Unless stated otherwise in the second list of the modern specifically link, all cards since the eighth edition are legal, and if I check legality on a card, and it does not mention modern, than it is prior to eight edition, am I on the right track now?

Basically, as a rule of thumb, if it has a modern frame and isn't in a special set with that frame, it's legal in modern. Armageddon has a modern frame, but only has this because it was in FTV: Annihilation, so it is not modern legal. On the other hand, Hornet Queen a year ago had only been printed in the first commander expansion. This made it not legal in modern, however, since then it received a printing in M15, one of the regular expansions, and so it is now modern legal. Also keep in mind that commander printings of Hornet Queen are legal in modern now as well. Another corner case are banned cards like Second Sunrise. Despite fitting the previous requirements, these (obviously) cannot be used (A link is in someone else's comment above. You can also check legality requirements as you said, where it has to say "Modern - Legal" for it to be allowed (if it doesn't mention a modern column then it's not from any set allowed in modern)

Simple answer: There isn't a good replacement for Dark Ritual in modern.
