Serum Visions or Gitaxian Probe???

Deck Help forum

Last question I have before I take my deck to a Modern FNM. I've made a few changes to the deck but the core has stayed the same. Since I'm running only 22 lands and my deck has a decent amount of control in it, I was wondering if I should drop Serum Visions for Gitaxian Probe . My though is that if I need an out, the probe will allow me to dig without having to tap a precious land I may need for my out. The only problem I have with this is the power I get from Serum Visions draw plus scry effect. I'm really torn on this decision, they both have their merits. I'm leaning towards the probes since mana is going to be a precious resource for my deck.

Here is the deck - Mono-Blue Artifect

Any thoughts, concerns, or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for any input.

Gitaxian Probe all the way. Not only draw but anticipation of what is to come, plus it keeps in the theme of your phyrexia mana cards.

Yea, like I said I'm leaning towards Gitaxian Probe . It just seems like a better card for this deck. Not wasting a mana on turn 1 with a Serum Visions allows me to keep the one mana up for a Spell Pierce . How did you like the deck?

You just have to be sure you can afford to always be paying two life. You need to be sure paying 1/5 of your life total for Dismember after paying two life to protect your Plague Myr and two life to draw a card on turn one for free is worth it. Just remember it adds up.

I would probably run the Probes too btw. Scry 2 is nice but you have so many cantrips already, plus it's nice to know whats in their hand.

I really like the name and phyrexian flavor, have a soft spot for new phyrexia. Deck seems solid enough though jminite14 has a point, gota be careful with that life lose. Was thinking maybe Rage Extractor for burn, but 4 mana and 4 lose of life is a bit much. Possibly add some Phyrexian Metamorph cause that's always useful. Also you have enough 2 drops were Muddle the Mixture would be useful, both to tutor what you need and control.

I thought about Muddle the Mixture and Phyrexian Metamorph , but I think the shell as it is solid. I'm going to be replacing something in the deck with 4xRemand s when I get them. I think Condescend is a bit too much of a cost in this deck and will likely be the card I replace when I do bring in the Remand s. I'll probably put in 4xRemand and drop 3xCondescend and 1xMana Leak . I thought about dropping the Mana Leak but they seem good in this deck since I'm not trying to go too long and should be able to stop anything big or game ending from my opponent.

The life payment is something I'm not too concerned about. My 20 life is nothing but a resource I'm using to win the game. That's how you should always look at it, but even more so in an infect deck.

What about something like Corrupted Resolve ? An early smack with an Inkmoth Nexus turns it into a hard counter.

I thought about including that too, but I decided against it since it's a dead draw before turn four if I'm attacking with an Inkmoth Nexus . The earliest I can get infect in is turn 3, which is why this deck is very control heavy...it's slower than the other infect decks, but it has the power to clear the battlefield and get in for big damage. The reason I'm trying to build this style of infect is because it gives up speed but it also takes away the biggest weaknesses of infect. The late game, and Leyline of Sanctity for the mono-black version.

Here is the version I will run once I get 2 Remand s, I don't think four is the right number in this deck, but the way I have the V2.0 of this deck setup seems like it's the right way to go. It's the direction I think works best for trying to put together a control infect deck.

Mono-Blue Artifect V2.0
