Most of the Zombies, Werewolves, and Vampires that you really need to be worried about in Standard are also multi-colored creatures. That means that neither of these spells will be able to deal with them. With that in mind, I would mainboard Ultimate Price because it has a less restrictive mana cost.

If you find that there are just too many multi-colored creatures and you can't deal with them, swap it out and try the Victim of Night instead.

Well considering everything said. Is there perhaps a better choice of a card (in standard) that might be more effective than either of these?

It really depends on the deck this removal spell is ran in and what you expect to be aiming that removal spell at, there is a huge difference between what a control deck wants to use a spot removal spell on and what an aggro deck wants to use a spot removal spell on.

Ultimate Price mainboard with Murder in sideboard tends to be a common thing to do.

I like to have a few Ultimate Price and a few Tragic Slip mainboard. Tragic Slip is highly under rated in my opinion. Great in early games, as it can be a 1CMC removal of 1 toughness creatures. And later in the game, standard is so creature heavy at the moment that there's always something dying, so it becomes a 1CMC removal of nearly anything... and if nothing else, you can use Ultimate Price to get the morbid for Tragic Slip .
