Sliver Deck : which colors are best?

Deck Help forum

Posted on Nov. 7, 2011, 2:22 p.m. by Noloic

I already have a Sliver Deck (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/slivers-are-not-your-enemies/),but,recently,mana is always wrong and it makes me very upset. So,i'm trying to perfectionate my deck by transforming it from a pentacolor into a tricolor (or bicolor if possible).

Of course, green will be there FOR SURE because of Gemhide Sliver ,Muscle Sliver ,Darkheart Sliver and so on. Which colors do you suggest me? :/

Oh,i forgot... i love black too because of Crypt Sliver (or Clot Sliver would be fine too tought...),Vampiric Sliver and Toxin Sliver ,but i don't know if it's good to add...

What about white,well... i like it too because of Essence Sliver : it's really a cure-all for me xD

Finally, the blue one : Winged Sliver is essential, but Shifting Sliver is hell strong...

That's all :) suggestions?

Linked.

Looking at the deck, I would focus on a few different Slivers. Your board has a lot of 1-ofs, and it will be difficult to maintain consistency in play and mana production.

I would figure out a general strategy: Do you want to win by aggro or combo?

Once you know that, you can choose the colors that will help you achieve that goal.

Alternatively, you could make an EDH deck.

Well I think your missing something very important, which is Crystalline Sliver seems to me that that is an auto include. (this of course would mean Clot Sliver over Crypt Sliver if you were going to have black as well.) And Shifting Sliver is very strong, Im no expert on slivers, (they were around before my time) but if i was going 3 colors, itd be green/black/blue, and if i was going 2 colors, black and green. A single Gemhide sliver obviously fixes your mana so if you ran 4 crystalline slivers in addition to the black/green i doubt youd have issues.

ALthough that being said there are a ton of slivers with awesome abilities in every color. =P its very hard to choose.

Epochalyptik thank you to linked it for me :) by the way well... i never thought about that, but i suppose i'm trying an Aggro type for now because 1)i don't know Slivers' combos yet 2)i already got a combo deck but i didn't like it that much. Which combos could be dealt with Slivers?

Penumbra yeah,i forgot to write the Crystalline one >.< it's f***ing strong, but yes,i'll have to use Clot Sliver if i choose it... so,a UBG deck hm? It may work.

Sliver Queen + Heart Sliver /Firewake Sliver + Gemhide Sliver + Basal Sliver = Infinite Slivers + infinite mana

Intruder Alarm and Training Grounds work well with Slivers.

Amoeboid Changeling + Sliver Overlord = steal a creature.

Naya would probably be a good combo for aggro Slivers. It's got the best offensive choices and can deal out a lot of damage with buffs. You'll want to consider Sinew Sliver , Muscle Sliver , Might Sliver , Blade Sliver , Bonesplitter Sliver , Magma Sliver , Heart Sliver , Gemhide Sliver , Cautery Sliver , Firewake Sliver , Harmonic Sliver , Homing Sliver , Horned Sliver , Metallic Sliver , Plated Sliver , Pulmonic Sliver , Quick Sliver , Sidewinder Sliver , Talon Sliver , and Two-Headed Sliver .

Maybe Essence Sliver , Ward Sliver , Root Sliver , Victual Sliver , and Spined Sliver .

If I were to advise a start, it would be this:

Heart Sliver , Sinew Sliver , Sidewinder Sliver , Muscle Sliver , Two-Headed Sliver , Talon Sliver , Horned Sliver . Those would form an aggro core, and a solid foundation (though it's obviously open to modification, given the flexibility of Slivers).

O.O never thought i could use Sliver Queen +others to create infinite Slivers and mana to produce them... That's a good combo! .

Beside,i alredy knew the Amoeboid Changeling +Sliver Overlord combo (even if it's a little slow). But what about Intruder Alarm ? Training Grounds even works perfectly alone with Sliver Queen ,Heart Sliver ,[[Gemhide Sliver] and Basal Sliver ...

Naya is the WRG deck of Alara, isn't it? That's a cool color-combination,and intrests me. But well, the Sliver Queen 's combo inspire me... should i build up a WBRG deck or should i just create a WRG one? Any suggestions about it?

I only found the infinite combo to be viable in EDH games, where you have the time and resources to set up.

Intruder Alarm can help you combo with Sliver Queen if you do Queen + Alarm + Gemhide Sliver + Heart Sliver /Firewake Sliver . It essentially replaces Basal Sliver .

WRG is a good aggro color setup here, and unless you want to go and do combos, I don't see a need to take it past three colors. You'll overcomplicate things and stretch your mana base past what, at least personally, is a comfortable limit in a 60-card deck.

i used to make a 5 colour sliver deck work in casual EDH but you definitely need a Sliver Overlord and some creature search and it mainly hinges on gemhide so you can shit out slivers and win hard. Sliver Legion and the Sliver Queen combo = infinite size slivers too lol. as long as you have trample haste and gemhide in play victory is easy. o wait YOU HAVE TO USE Frenetic Sliver !!!!!

I think it will be good to change some or all of the vivid lands and put dual lands insteadthe five colors is very powerfull with fractiusand i think this is the way to getting there...

@Epochalyptik : i see... this is a good starting point,thanks!

@maiden77 : yeah,i used to do it too until yesterday (xD),but it's a little slow and mana is often wrong, making me upset. But yeah,i always knew the Sliver Overlord ,Sliver Queen and Sliver Legion 's power... they're really strong, but culnerable as well.

@damatta : that's for sure... i used them just because mine was a pentacolor deck and i needed multicolored mana any time i want.

I run multicoloured lands and 4 card:Eladamri's Call along with heavy green and 4 Gemhide Sliver some Crystalline Sliver some [[frenetic sliver] for wrath protection, Pulmonic Sliver for even more wrath protection and then 1x Sliver Queen , Sliver Overlord Sliver Legion . the rest of the slivers were just for extras like card draw so i ran 4x Synapse Sliver and then some Heart Sliver , Muscle Sliver , Sinew Sliver and a couple of 1s like Synchronous Sliver

this meant basically get a gemhide in opening hand or find one. play it and build field. get an overlord win target game. without the 3 nasties they still win as they are sick. i also run Brood Sliver , Necrotic Sliver and 4x Necrotic Sliver VERY competetive as if it didnt combo out it just overrun people and hurt lots

if you are currently struggling penta colour then go for green white blue? you can make your sliver unblockable, fly, recurr, get MUCH fatter and produce mana and draw cards and trample and haste and produce tokens what more could a sliver deck need lol. if however you stick with penta colour (which i would as it is more challenging and deserving when it does win) add some land fetch if you are truly stuck along with some better lands. Sakura-Tribe Elder FTW and maybe some Explosive Vegetation for super land fetch

November 8, 2011 9:52 a.m.

Noloic says... #15

Yup,i thought to add some Fetches and some land-takers in green deck, but Explosive Vegetation is a little slow... 4 mana is harsh. I prefer Cultivate ,Search for Tomorrow ,Caravan Vigil and cards like these. Of course,Terramorphic Expanse or Evolving Wilds are good too, even if a little slower...

November 8, 2011 10:49 a.m.

maiden77 says... #16

agreed i just love Explosive Vegetation lol. although the ultimate land fetch is of course Primeval Titan with Lightning Greaves lol

November 8, 2011 11:10 a.m.

Noloic says... #17

What the... O.o Lightning Greaves are such powerful! They give Shroud and Haste with Equip 0 O_O but yeah, the Titan is,of course, the most powerful land-fetcher of Magic xDBy the way,i decided : i'm trying in build-up a WRG Aggro deck for now. I hope it'll get well.

November 8, 2011 11:20 a.m.

b/r/w ive found is also pretty strong. combining Sedge Sliver with Toxin Sliver , or Toxin Sliver with Talon Sliver , or Quilled Sliver and Vampiric Sliver , and then Necrotic Sliver is excellent spot removal for whatever needs to go.

November 8, 2011 3:12 p.m.

Noloic says... #19

Uhm i didn't notice Sedge Sliver 's second ability... it's fuc***g strong in a BR deck with Toxin Sliver and Vampiric Sliver ! Maybe i'm going BRG after i've seen Sedge Sliver ...

November 8, 2011 3:33 p.m.

I think part of the problem is narrowing your focus to a few things. Each Sliver has something to offer, but you need to be able to differentiate between what is nice and what you actually need if you're going to go for a strong build.

November 8, 2011 3:42 p.m.

agreed. there are so many fun things that slivers can do, and so many directions you can go. you really need to sit down, decide the direction you want to go, narrow down the colors (which can be hard since, if youre going aggro, there are slivers in every color that can give you aggro), and then further narrow down the list of slivers by asking yourself, "do i need this?" or would it be a luxury?". you dont want a lot of 1 or 2 ofs. you are going to want lots of 3 and 4 ofs with maybe 1 or 2 creatures being a 1 or 2 of. its all about consistency.

You're both right... In fact,i'm seriously thiking about how to build-up a stronger and smaller deck, maybe making it a little faster too adding R indeed... Probably i'm gonna make a fast WRG Sliver Aggro deck. I like it because it's faster than what i ever thought.
