Standard hyper aggro

Deck Help forum

working on a blitz deck featuring the sadly past-its-prime Burning-Tree Emissary

I know that this strategy in general has a lot of road blocks right now (Sylvan Caryatid , Anger of the Gods , Bile Blight , etc) but it is a lot of fun and I think worth a shot at FNM again.

My deck is Burning-tree Blitz. The questions for the forum are:

What are the best spells which I can I cast of off Burning-Tree Emissary mana?

What cards (or colors) am I missing to maximize damage on turn 3? The idea here is to have them in burn range in 2 attacks.

I put a possible Turn 2 win scenario on your deck page with BTE. it requires 9 cards, that you're on the draw, and that you open the game with the EXACT cards in hand. Both draws must also be exact. It's highly unlikely but possible. It's the only T2 standard win I know of at the moment.

The T2 win you're referring to doesn't work in a hyper aggro deck, though.

Also, I remember reading about another T2 win a few months ago in a hydra tribal deck. Can't remember exactly how it went, but it involved a lot of T2 pumping.

Oh, was I referring to ramp instead of hyper-aggro? I didn't know there was a difference, categorically. I always thought aggro meant, "win super fast." Lol

Obviously turn 2 is "hyper aggro", isn't it? If you can win that fast, that's better than a "hyper aggro"

Hyper-aggro usually consist of low cost cards. That T2 deck plays big guys. If you only hit the combo 1-5% of the time, the other 95-99% of the time you're playing a deck with Garruk, Caller of Beasts and Worldspine Wurm . To me that makes it not so aggro-y. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, that was my reasoning too. Unless "hyper aggro" excludes ramp, but I see no reason why it should.

it's a weak distinction but if we're looking to draw a line or find a new name for this, I'd say that the Burning-Tree Emissary devotion kill is a combo-aggro deck like modern robots/affinity.

I'm looking more for damage and value in turns 2-4.

@strongwalker Sure. Definitely agree there.

what does everyone think of Ordeal of Purphoros ? It is more damage than Lightning Strike but also prone to removal (of the creature)

playing it on a Rakdos Cackler or evolved Experiment One gets a head start.

playing Cloudfin Raptor then Burning-Tree Emissary x2 and Ordeal of Purphoros triggers the damage on t2. That starts to feel more like aggro-combo (not a bad thing). Also really tough on colors.
