Starting modern, need deck suggestion

I'm interested in starting modern, but with no knowledge and a low budget, i'm not sure what to start with. I need something that can compete decently without all the super expensive lands that I will never be able to get, as well as function without other expensive cards, if this is even possible. My favorite deck currently is hexproof auras, so if there's anything that's close to that and performs well with cheap cards, please tell me!

Well, you could always try out one of the many hexproof aura lists that are around, but they can be on a more expensive side if you're looking at the top tier ones.
One of the cheapest decks that you can make that is even viable in Modern right now is Travis Woo's Ninja Bear Delver deck. It's monoU, so there aren't any crazy land needs to fulfill. Also, any Delver deck is going to be on the cheaper side of things. If you don't like the ninja bear tactic, you could always run UR delver, as that is also fairly cheap.
And if all else fails, there's burn.

Derp... Ignore the ninja bear delver suggestion. Forgot that it ran cryptic command and snapcaster...
As blackmarker said, Soul sisters is also pretty cheap.

There is a hexproof auras deck in modern.
It's one of those decks that can absolutely wreck an FNM, but you really need to get a good opening hand to make it work.
It's a super fun deck to play, I am currently building it. You can go a more budget route without the fetches, Daybreak Coronet or Kor Spiritdancer , but that gets less reliable.

It is a thread about starting playing modern, and it has the tier 1, tier 1.5 and tier 2 decks. It really helped me out.

If you're already comfortable playing hexproof auras and enjoy it, then just stick with that and see what the format has to offer in terms of new cards. The learning curve for a completely new deck can be killer, especially in a format you're not very familiar with. If you start with a deck you already know about, you can focus your energy on learning how to play against the field.

Modern
SCORE: 4 | 0 COMMENTS | 525 VIEWS Top 8: 01/11Here's an example of a modern aura deck. To bring the price down, cut the Daybreak Coronet for Unflinching Courage , run another land or 2 as well. Run more Wooded Bastion and Sunpetal Grove in the manabase. And the Kor Spiritdancer can go to Silhana Ledgewalker . It certainly cuts into the power, tricks and consistency of the deck, but the shell is still there to slowly build on.

GR Tron and Affinity are the best options if you're looking for a tier 1 deck that isn't incredibly expensive. They require some pretty pricey cards (Karn Liberated , Mox Opal etc.) but they don't require a fetchland manabase.
If you're looking for a cheaper deck, I would recommend Soul Sisters or Mono Blue Tron. As mono coloured decks, they have cheap manabases, and can be built optimally for under $200. They are decent tier 2 decks that can compete in a local environment.
Alternatively, you could attempt to build a deck like GW Auras without spending money on its manabase and/or more expensive cards. I would personally prefer not to do this, but you could give it a try.
Some example lists are below:
