Std American control help, need the experts

Deck Help forum

I've been working on my American control deck for awhile and am looking to field the best version. I'm hoping that some of the experts at playing American control in standard could weigh in and give some advice.

Yesterday I started looking at some of decklists that did very well and was encouraged that what I had built (with help from tapped out), was along these lines.

I have three American control decks for consideration:
1. AEtherling's Army This is my latest version in American control. I will likely run this tonight unless I get strong advice to go with a different version
2. AEtherling is Alright 8-14-13 version This is the deck that I've been running, with some subtle changes based on some M14 cards I just received. If I don't run deck #1, then this is what I would probably go with.
3. AEtherling's Barnyard Stomp more of a prototype. Deck #1 evolved out of this deck idea and deck #2

So the feedback I'm looking for is:

  1. Which deck do you like best and why?
  2. What subtle changes would you tweak to make a deck better and why

Thanks again and feedback from everyone would be really appreciated.
I would especially love it if Jimhawk, KrazyCaley, or Owlus could take a look and provide some advice.
Thanks for looking!

any thoughts?

How about the value of Augur of Bolas ? I have a love/hate relationship with this guy.

Since the site was down, I wasn't able to get to this until just now.

To be honest, I like the second deck best because I typically don't like tapping out to play Reckoner on turn three or Plate Mail on turn 4; I prefer holding up counters or draw spells in the first four turns. However, Assemble the Legion is absolutely one of the strongest cards you can be playing right now, which is what makes the first deck listed so powerful. I would play AEtherling's Army with no changes.

As for Augur of Bolas , a UWR deck probably doesn't want to run any more than 3 of him. He's good, but not instrumental to the strategy since you have burn spells that can compensate for the damage he would usually do in any given game. How many of him you play is usually based on how important Restoration Angel is to your strategy, since he gains additional value if she's one of the most important cards in your deck.

Thanks Jimhawk I ended up playing AEtherling's Army, with mixed results. An update of the matchups are on that deck's page. Overall, I think it went alright. Except for aggro matchups, where I needed Boros Reckoner out ASAP, I held him back until I could cast him and still be able to cast a counterspell. I never cast Haunted Plate Mail but had it in game 1 of the first matchup and it was an option that I didn't pursue in favor of a more conservative approach until I could Blasphemous Act for the win. I'm considering how to tweak the deck to make it a bit stronger: 2x AEtherling and 2x Assemble the Legion was too many high CMC win-con type cards in the main and I'm not sure about my planeswalkers, even though they've done alright. I might play the deck that Ben Stark played at World's 2013 and might revisit the Boros Reckoner idea after Theros (but that depends on a red wrath spell that is playable and deals damage). Dunno, haven't decided which way to go or how to tweak my deck yet.

Bant hexproof is an issue, and I'm leaning towards Ratchet Bomb out of the sideboard over Celestial Flare , still don't know yet.
