Unless you're running a combo deck, you should have more than one avenue to victory. I assume you're playing standard, so your deck needs to be versatile.

You dont really have much in the way of getting rid of Slaughter Games , but you should definitely have some counters like Negate or Syncopate in there. From that point, it's all about playing it smart. When he's going to have Slaughter Games mana open on his next turn, you best make sure you have Negate mana open. Redirect is also great because it can make him choose himself as a target, fizzling the spell, or exiling his own cards if he's so unfortunate. Redirect is also a great sideboard card against control anyways. Redirect essentially reads counter target counterspell. Put it on the stack, Redirect ing the counter to Redirect. Redirect resolves, then the counter tries to resolve but fails since it's target is no longer on the stack.Very versatile for sideboard.

actually, Slaughter Games is uncounterable and it doesn't target, so...

Slight overlook on the uncounterable part. My mistake.Redirect does work though. I'd give it a shot.

If you're going to combat Slaughter Games by targeting tricks, you'd probably be better off with Witchbane Orb . Seems more versatile overall.

i read up on Redirect and apparently you cannot redirect Slaughter Games because it says "target opponent'' in the text.

The only way you can Redirect Slaughter Games is in a game with more than 3 players, just Redirect it to a different opponent.

Nevermore works for now, and it will even do if you're on the draw.

Redirect in a game of 3 players or more.

Nevermore , Reap Intellect , Council of the Absolute , Slaughter Games , Duress , Appetite for Brains and Witchbane Orb in a 1v1 game. Reverberate works to a lesser extent as well.

Alternatively, add more win-cons in your sideboard and swap the main deck win-cons out for game 2. Make him look for your non-existent Door to Nothingness or something and waste a card.

Also, another hilarious way to annoy people who play Slaughter Games . Use Misthollow Griffin as your win-con. I know a guy who plays WUBG Misthollow Control with things like Moorland Haunt , Forbidden Alchemy , Farseek , Thragtusk and Sphinx's Revelation . It works really well against other control decks. Rest in Peace blanks. Slaughter Games blanks. Only real way to deal with it is to kill it before it kills you.

Chuck in Varolz, the Scar-Striped and you have one crazy deck that steamrolls control players.

That's alot of ways to combat Slaughter Games that i haven't thought of. Thanks! I might try reverberate to stop him from stopping anymore of my wincons or so. Maybe playtest with misthollow in my sideboard or something.

There are a couple ways of stopping Slaughter Games . 1) Slaughter Games your opponents Slaughter Games . 2) Witchbane Orb gives you hexproof so you can't be targeted by it. 3) Nevermore naming Slaughter Games . If you have 5 or less life, 4) Faith's Shield . Give yourself protection from red or black.

Use Mindclaw Shaman when he has it in hand? It's kind of a stretch but I thought that this card could be some good sideboard tech at one point

Almost like a 3 for 1 if it resolves (look at their hand, if they have Slaughter Games you can either name it or another instant/sorcery from their hand and get max value for it)

Speaking of Mindclaw Shaman . Sin Collector is another card you can look into as well if you are somehow splashing for black.

@ShimmerVoid: Sin Collector isn't UWR though.
