i pulled Xenagos, The Reveler from a booster today. ive never been good with gruul and i dont wanna get rid of him or let him go unused. looking for some basic outlines/ideas in starting a red/green deck

My friend plays a deck similar to what osang21 suggests...purely hydras and mana dorks. It gets out of hand fast. He doesn't use Domri Rade but he does use Garruk, Caller of Beasts
The key as always...kill the mana dork

A walker like Domri Rade would be easier to build around, to me Xenagos fulfills more of a support role. Definitely much better with many creatures, Xenagos has potential; the best choice is probably G/R Monstrous Devotion.
It's not necessarily the cheapest either; ideally you'll want Garruk, Caller of Beasts along with the Gruul walkers; along with Stormbreath Dragon , Polukranos, World Eater , Arbor Colossus , etc. And lots of devotion with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx .
