Sylvan Caryatid in Control?

Deck Help forum

I am running Bant Control for this standard season, and I am wondering if Sylvan Caryatid is a good idea in this build or not. A guy at my LGS runs a similar control deck, and he uses the Caryatids. The way I am running it, though, I don't. Bant Control 2.0 is the deck...what do you all think?

I personally don't think the Advent of the Wurm s fit, as most control decks only have 1-2 win-con cards and you already have 2x Elspeth, Sun's Champion and 2x AEtherling s...maybe drop 2x for 2x Sylvan Caryatid s, unless youre looking to add a playset. otherwise looks good!

Trust me, Myogenesis, those Wurms get the job done. The AEtherling s may end up moved to the sideboard, that would free up room for a few Caryatids. I'm just not sure that I need the ramp...yet.

For your build, no. It just makes your Supreme Verdict s garner less card advantage. It could however work in a Bant midrange list with more of a control angle.

Any deck that relies on board wipes to stabilize probably shouldn't also rely on creatures for board presence. You will obviously want to keep your win-cons, but past that it's usually a good idea to keep your wraths one-sided.

Any deck running Supreme Verdict and Elspeth should not be running Advent of the Wurm or Sylvan Caryatid

It's not worth it as is. You'll end up wiping them out anyways. You're better off firing the charms and controlling your opponent. There really isn't anything I'd be comfortable removing.

I would drop definitely drop a copy of AEtherling , you only really need one with all those other win cons. The problem with running mana dorks in a control list is that instead of being able to Verdict at will, you're now going to be at a disadvantage unless you kill 3+ enemy cards.

Ok, all, got it. No Caryatids...so what can we decide is the best thing to put in place of an AEtherling ?

I would probably go with Detention Sphere #4

The Detention Sphere is a good suggestion.

I'm not completely clear on why people are cutting AEtherling altogether, though. He means game over unless you play him too late.

Yeah, I'm with you. Otherwise you just get hosed by a Pithing Needle or something.
