Theros pre release

Deck Help forum

Just wanna talk about what kind of color/deck your gonna try to make at the pre-release, if you're going that is. I picked the green one and idk if I wanna change it. I had some sort of idea with the green god but idk, any input?

The Gods are all mythics, so its highly unlikely you'll get any, let alone the green one.

In general, don't let your rares/mythics guide you too much. You won't see them that often in games, compared to your commons and uncommons, so those should be the deciding factor about what you play. You will almost certainly have to go two-colors, but three doesn't look doable without a very high level of mana fixing, which this set has little of. Theros looks like it will be a slower limited, so don't be afraid to go with a higher curve than normal.

It comes with the god of the color you choose and 6 packs with us here at my place. Nevertheless, it almost seems like you're correct, maybe a mix of red and green, red and white, and or blue white. I have no clue though, i'm just excited

Are you sure? The official Prerelease stuff is supposed to be 5 Theros Booster packs, a Seeded pack in your color, a playable promo card in your color which is definitely not one of the gods, and a bunch of extra flavor stuff. Here's a link to the description (pretty far down the page, goes over the mechanics first)

I'm not sure how your store is guaranteeing a god of your color choice, considering that they would have to open other boosters ahead of time to get one, and I don't think that is allowed. Also it seems like they would be losing a lot of money on that proposition...

Honestly, it's going to be based totally on what I pull, but I'm hoping to either do a U/G deck or a WW deck. However, my plans a M14 prerelease had to do U/W control just because that was what I could run best, and I went 3-1. I try to base my prerelease decks off of one or two rares (it was Colossal Whale for M14), but it all depends on the synergy between the cards I have.

I can't remember which post it was, but someone put up a link of a youtube video. It's a guy who owns a store and bought extras of the pre-release packs that they give you and opened the extras so he could show people what comes in them. You pick a color and they give you a box. Once opened inside you'll find some paperwork about the pre-release, a spindown of your color, 5 Theros booster packs, and another in a clear cellophane wrapper. The clear one is your seeded booster pack, and each seeded booster contains the promo card of your color, a rare of your color (it could be a gold card containing your color), a common in your color and an uncommon in your color. After that there are 2 more uncommons and 9 more commons that are of mixed colors. So just because you choose a color doesn't mean you'll even have enough playable cards in that color to make a deck. The color is simply to specify which hero and promo card you will get. You can make all the guesses you want, but no one knows what color(s) they're going to play until they open up all 6 packs of cards There is good news though. When watching the video of what's inside the pre-release packs the guy opened the blue one and his seeded booster contained Thassa, God of the Sea so there will be mythic rares available in the seeded packs if your lucky also in the white pre-release pack he opened there was a Fleecemane Lion in it.

Generally its not a good idea to plan what you want to run ahead of time. I would wait to you open your boosters to decide.

So who is picking what color? To me, blue looks to be the weakest color on it's own, but the disruption and mass scrying it provides may be the perfect mate to any of the remaining four colors to "get there", especially in limited play.

To speak for a moment on what you get in the pack...it is confirmed to be 5 Theros boosters, 1 seeded (pre-determined cards) pack of your chosen color, and the promo of your color...which is also confirmed as a "hero" type creature card. I believe that they are all just alternate arts of the legendary heroes in each color. Also you get a Theros spin-down dice, a "hero" card that is only usable in the Theros prerelease (I think), and some MtG Theros literature.

Personally, I have only done limited a few times, but I feel it is best to draft low cmc creaturesto keep the pressure on, removal to turn the pressure up on your opponent, and a few bombs if they become available. This was my plan of action in the M14 draft and I went undefeated without playing a single rare...so please don't feel obligated to grab or play rare cards just bc you pulled it.

As some people said, it's likely going to be necessary to play a dual color deck, and I am hoping to be able to draft into white/black.

The promos you get for the prerelease are promo versions of that color's deck foil. So, if you choose the Path of Ambition (black), you get a sweet promo Abhorrent Overlord .

@capriom85 the seeded boosters are not preselected. I have to find a link to the youtube video of the shop owner opening the extra pre-release packs his store purchased for the sake of showing everyone what's in them. If the seeded booster packs were all preselected then I'd definitely choose blue seeing as how when the guy opens the blue pre-release pack his rare in the seeded booster was Thassa, God of the Sea .

This is the topic with the link to the video showing you what to expect in your pre-release pack that you get Just to be clear, its on page 3 and is the #2 post on that page. It's a short video, I think only like 7 minutes but he goes through each of the 5 packs, and the seeded boosters are definitely not preselected or monocolored.

ok now that I've gone and found the topic I saw that link in, I just noticed that the video has been made private. I watched it earlier so I'm not really sure why it's private now.

ok I just found another video by the same shop that put up the opening of the prerelease boxes. I was going to ask why they took it down but the very first comment on the second video I found had already ask, and the shop's response was that they took it down at the request of Wizards.

Wizards said that there is a chance, albeit a small one, that you will get your God in the seeded booster. Otherwise, you're going to be subject to the Fates (not Triad of Fates ) on whether you find a God in your packs.

Ember Swallower , Anthousa, Setessan Hero , Shipbreaker Kraken and Celestial Archon .

I believe these will be playable in the prerelease, so consider it an extra rare.
