Is it just me or does Torpor Orb shut down pod completely? Also does it beat clone effects? It doesn't shut down clone effects because those effects aren't triggered by a creature entering the battlefield. There's no trigger there; it's just a "may".
I'm not sure how you see it shutting down Birds of Paradise either, because there is no ETB effect at all on that little guy.
The text you need to be looking for to get a use out of Torpor Orb is "whenever X enters the battlefield". If it doesn't have that text, then TO doesn't care about it.

card:Grafdigger's Cage and Torpor Orb together would really shut down pod.

That's very true. Torpor Orb doesn't shut down Birthing Pod , it just makes a lot of the creatures it grabs less useful. card:Grafdigger's Cage, on the other hand, stops the pod in its tracks.
The two together turn most pod decks into a deck full of vanilla creatures.

Cards such as Champion of the Parish or other cards that trigger from creatures entering the battlefield are affected by Torpor Orb as well.
landgrafb is correct on the clone effects. The choice is made when they are cast and they enter the battlefield as a copy of the chosen creature. Or you can choose to have them enter the battlefield as a 0/0 shapeshifter. No trigger occurs upon entry.

Also, on a side note. Thragtusk 's enter the battlefield ability doesn't trigger when Torpor Orb is online (Gaining 5 life) BUT it's Leave ability will still trigger... Giving you your 3/3 creature.
card:Grafdigger's Cage is great against Undying Creatures though!

Torpor Orb is an especially strong card right now given a meta full of Soulbond creatures, Pod Decks, Restoration Angel , etc.
Pod can still use the artifact, they just don't get all the value that they normally would and don't get to Pod for answers to whatever you're doing. It's a strong card.
