Turntimber ranger broken??

Deck Help forum

Using Xenograft and Turntimber Ranger , you can create an endless amount of 2/2 wolves. Ramp Xenograft makes everything an ally, so when Turntimber Ranger enters the battlefield you get a 2/2 wolf who becomes an ally, triggering the ability over and over. Now you opponent plays a board wipe before you can attack. Instead you play Might of the Masses on say, a Phantom Warrior , making it giant and can beat the life gain combo and can block the twin combo if it's flashed in with Leyline of Anticipation out of sideboard.

Is this a legitimate deck??

Are you sure that is how it works? I think that Xenograft can only affect creatures which are in play, so the wolf would come into play as a wolf at which point it would become an ally as a status effect. So in the end the wolves would not ever activate Turntimber Ranger 's ability.

This would; however, make for a good ally deck, since other ally abilities would count the wolf allies which are in play such as Ondu Cleric , Sea Gate Loremaster , or Hagra Diabolist .

No, it works, the 2/2 wolf token enters the battlefield as a wolf ally, triggering Turntimber Ranger 's effect, which makes another wolf ally token, and so on and so forth. You could also make an infinitely big Oran-Rief Survivalist , then use Distortion Strike on it, Blighted Agent would work well too.

Wow, that just seemed weird to me, but if it works I may have to add that combo to the list of decks I plan on making eventually. That would be an awesome deck with Distortion Strike .

603.1. Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as "Tap," and begin with the word "when," "whenever," or "at." They can also be expressed as "WW,."

603.6b Continuous effects that modify characteristics of a permanent do so the moment the permanent is on the battlefield (and not before then). The permanent is never on the battlefield with its unmodified characteristics. Continuous effects don't apply before the permanent is on the battlefield, however (see rule 603.6e).

Example: If an effect reads "All lands are creatures" and a land card is played, the effect makes the land card into a creature the moment it enters the battlefield, so it would trigger abilities that trigger when a creature enters the battlefield. Conversely, if an effect reads "All creatures lose all abilities" and a creature card with an enters-the-battlefield triggered ability enters the battlefield, that effect will cause it to lose its abilities the moment it enters the battlefield, so the enters-the-battlefield ability won't trigger.

Conspiracy and Artificial Evolution also allow you to use this combo. I don't think you need the Phantom Warrior + Might of the Masses combo, however. If you want to keep to two color UG, you could use Halimar Excavator , Umara Raptor , Oran-Rief Survivalist , Graypelt Hunter , or just an infinite number of 2/2's to win. If you want to go for three colors and up, there are tons of allies that could win, as posted above.

As deadmanwalking said, those other 2 cards aren't necessary, but alternate allies also add to other win conditions, like infinite mill (Halimar Excavator , infinite lifegain (Ondu Cleric ), infinite mana (Harabaz Druid ).

I made a deck around this idea as soon as I heard Xenograft was getting printed in a spoiler.

Infinite Alliance with Wolves is the link if you're interested.
