Two Beautiful Decks
Deck Help forum
Posted on Aug. 26, 2011, 6:28 p.m. by TylerJohns
Hello Hello.
You might have seen me around.
My name is Tyler, I live in Nashville, Tennessee.
I like to try to design unique decks, two of which are on the site.
The first of the two, Rage of Phyrexia, is my first ever attempt at deck making, focusing on the card Rage Extractor .
The second of the two, Venser's Splicing Pod, is my personal favorite, combining Birthing Pod , Venser, and a the Splicers to gain victory.
I would appreciate it if members of the site and explorers of the forum would help me further my card knowledge and help with suggestions for both decks, especially the VSP Deck, considering it hasn't gotten as much attention as RoP.
Also, if anyone knows of sites I can go to to place these decks online for attention, I would like to know.
Please and thank you!
Don't be afraid to +1 if you like!

Erm... deck-cycling should get the attention you require for your decks. People will naturally comment and give suggestions, that is generally the point of deck-building on this site , so why you are asking for views on the forum is beyond me. Although you have politely worded this post, I feel that it is attention seeking in the wrong way, and to title it: 'Two Beautiful Decks', seems kinda arrogant.
I took a look at your first deck, the Rage of Phyrexia... I was amazed that given you didn't own any cards, you appeared to know so much about the game - to the point where the first few suggestions were politely thrown back at the members who gave them! I can't understand why someone who owns no cards and is asking for help would go into so much detail about combos and post-rotation etc. In fact, while we are here, why would a new player (owning no cards) be obsessed with standard and rotation?! And why the dislike of Zendikar? Have you studied every card and the synergies and thought: "Ya know, I don't even own cards, but man, these ones are crap as hell!!" This just doesn't add up to me.
I come up with only two explanations:
1) You have watched and studied the game intently, but never got into it, due to financial problems or something. You have talked with experienced players and have a total grasp of the game, and are ready to go winning tournaments. Because you're cool like that.
OR (and I think this is more likely)
2) You are already an experienced player, saying you weren't so that your good decks will get super praised, and comments like "wow, this good for a noob".
Now, I'm not an arse, and I don't start flame wars or troll around; but I do say it as it is. I think something is a bit amiss here. However, if somehow I've mis-judged this and got this whole scenario wrong, please do tell me.

To link something you do (a href="url") link text (/a) The parentheses should be < and > respectively.
I'm going to do some testing with your venser pod deck and let you know what i think.

I've only bought one 30 dollar deck but I'm pretty well informed about the meta and what not and consider myself a pretty competitive player. I just play online since it's cheaper.
So basically, I have virtually no cards, but I am rather knowledgeable about the game, particularly the standard format and am probably equally skilled at building decks, read: not net-decking, as most other people.
Just saying nothing seems amiss to me. Also I had made 2 other decks online before I even bought that 30 dollar deck.

Actually weterr, my situation is neither.
I am a fairly new player, I didn't even know what magic was until the Zendikar set was released.
I've been paying CLOSE attention to the meta up until now, and I've had a veteran magic player teach me about the game. So that's where my knowledge comes from.
I say I have no cards, but I actually use his.
I am knowledgeable, but only about that which is standard.
mozer, I don't have a clue what that comment was for.
and Ipyro92 thanks, but use the list i just updated, it has wurmcoil engine and a 4th blade splicer in it.

I feel like this thread needs its own soundtrack scored by the Dust Brothers.

Nah. Aphex Twin. Dust brothers are too coherent, but I like your style, Quiv.

I'm actually thinking Hans Zimmer could compose something amazing here!
Tyler, let me condense my point, as last night I decided to pick holes in everything.
Just deck-cycle dude, don't make forum posts calling your decks 'beautiful', nor begging for views. No matter how polite you are about it, it is still begging. If you want more views and deck-cycling isn't enough for you, then do what I and many other members do. On decks that are similar to yours, give comments and feedback (as you normally would), then maybe link your deck there, asking for their opinion on your deck. That way, you are saying: "I have a similar deck. What do you think to my take on this particular strategy?"
By the way, my decks are 'wonderously fantastic beyond comprehension'
;)

1) I do deck cycle.
2) "Don't make forum posts aclling your decks 'beautiful', bor begging for views.
One, I can call my decks whatever I want.
Two, I don't recall myself begging for views, it looks to me like I'm asking people for feedback on my decks.
3) I do go to similar decks and say X.
4) I made this forum thread to increase the chances of someone knowing about my decks. Oh well if you don't like it, but don't tell me not to do something. I can make threads about deck help in the DECK HELP SECTION if I like. Thanks.

I'm starting to think that what this thread needs is a good Flava Flav. But I am not that guy so sadly, I can only put out the call, hoping to bring in that guy:
Can somebody please put a clock on a chain and that chain then around their neck? OK that done: Next, while exhibiting great on-camera animation behind but slightly to the side of...um, either of the thread's Chuck Dses...can we then scream "What TIME izzit!?"
and then we all go: "AAAHHH..." as though the scene was leading to something poignant but instead of important social commentary we all get mad about Magic!

Rofl, it quite clearly states before you post in that section, to state specifically what you are wanting help with. Asking for general help by saying go to my decks and comment, is not doing this!
Yes you can call your decks beautiful, I just said that I think that is arrogant. Wait for other people to call them beautiful.

If somebody want to make a deck help thread, that's their business. They might want additional help, or maybe nobody looked at their deck when it was cycled.
Offer your help or don't, but don't start a flame war.

Ok, end of my ranting at TylerJohns.
However I will say, Epochalyptik, I'm surprised you didn't agree (or chose not to publicly acknowledge) this part of my comment:

I am right with that at the very least. Flame war is not my intention. It may appear that way due to the nature of how I put my points across. That is all.
