Deck Help forum

I am building an American Midrange, Geist Deck Wins type deck. I'm looking to take it to FNM next week. I have all the components I need, my question is over if I should use Unsummon or Cyclonic Rift. The big factors for me are the 1 cmc vs the 2 cmc and the fact that the rift can target other threats. I'm not putting much emphasis on the idea of the rift being overloaded at 7cmc often. Which do you think I should run in the deck?
Cyclonic Rift works on planeswalkers and CAN act as a board clear (sort of)

Depends on whether it's creatures or or other permanents that are ruining your day the most. If it's really just creatures, probably best to just keep to the Unsummon. But if you need the versatility, one colorless mana is hardly a real barrier to use.

I went through the same ordeal with a deck I had a while ago. Trust me go with the rift, a lot more versatile and overloading it can be a game changer.

I'd actually go with the Unsummon as you can save your Geist from a sweeper or sac effect with it, which tends to swing the game in your favor.

Thanks for the input! I'll playtest with thme both a bit, but I will probably settle on the Cyclonic Rift in the long run becasue it isn't only creatures that are a pain in my local meta.

For one more colorless mana, you can now target everything except a land. That's much more versatile in it's own. The bonus of a late game overload just sweetens it. Go Cyclonic Rift, IMO.
