In my newest Modern deck, I need to cut either Vampire Nighthawk or Stalker Hag . The deck is a mono-black devotion build with Gray Merchant of Asphodel . Stalker Hag provides 3 devotion and is good at pushing damage through, especially with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth out. Vampire Nighthawk is, well, Vampire Nighthawk .

The deck in question is

In my opinion, keep the nighthawk.

And why do you use Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth ?

The two serve different purposes.

Vampire Nighthawk is good for improving sustainability and stabilizing your board position. The flying, lifelink, and deathtouch combination give it strong offensive and defensive presence. If you intend to play it defensively, though, you need to consider whether a 3-drop with no spell evasion is worth relying on as a dedicated blocker.

Stalker Hag is purely for offense because it has only forestwalk and swampwalk. It also adds one more devotion. It's not so good for sustainability, but it can, as you point out, help you get damage through.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is good for Stalker Hag , as I said above, but it also makes my 3 copies of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx tap for black mana.

Seeing as your curve basically starts at 3 mana, Vampire Nighthawk . You're going to be looking to stabilize more often than you're going to be aggressive.

On that line, having only 8 things to do before T3 is way too slow for modern. It won't matter what devotion stuff you plan on fueling when you're so far behind on board state by that point. You really need to find more early interaction or BB creatures / enchantments.

I am all for the nighthawk man. This guys is a total powerhouse. He has flying, he gives you some life gain, and his deathtouch makes your opponent think twice before swinging.

Vampy is better than Stalker Hag. Hag has potential to be a dead draw where Vampy is always good.
