Viable replacement for Flinthoof Boar?
Deck Help forum

Yo tappedout, So I have a big ol' Gruul deck with the gameplan of aggro'ing early with Disciple of the Old Ways and Flinthoof Boar , and later Wild Beastmaster bloodrushing peoples' faces. However, with the cycle soon, and my desire to keep the deck standard, I've deduced that the only card I'll really miss is Flinthoof. Suggestions for a viable replacement?

Actually, I'll move this to Deck Help if you post a link to your deck.

Scavenging Ooze at this point, a turn 2 one of these will be interesting and hose a lot of decks. it'll remove cards from the graveyard and scavenge any creature for G to get +1/+1 and gain you 1 life. This will hurt reanimator, any deck playing Snapcaster Mage (pre-rotation) and any kind of recursion based decks.

Kalonian Tusker was my first thought as well, followed by Witchstalker, Scavenging Ooze , and even Deadly Recluse .
However, without knowing more about your deck, and seeing how it works, it's hard to say what the best fit would be... Mutavault might even be the right card to replace it (adding more land, rather than swapping out land for it), depending on the rest of the deck.

The more I think about Mutavault , the more I like it for this deck. Won't trigger Ruric Thar, the Unbowed . Gets around Silence and Render Silent , which might see play with Elite Arcanist. Hard to remove without land destruction or instant speed removal.
Heck... the extra land may allow for the inclusion of Borborygmos Enraged as a one-of.

the disciple is a very under rated card, i have won a few drafts with her. But i do feel Scavenging Ooze is the way to go in a brave gruul world. As for Wild Beastmaster i'm not a fan, i would rather have Ogre Battledriver . It will be sad to see Flinthoof Boar we've become so close lol.

Kalonian Tusker is basically flinthoof boar without the haste option, but can't be cast from Burning-Tree Emissary . I would say Burning-Tree Emissary into Scavenging Ooze is your current best call. I'm sure there will be something in Theros though.

Honestly, it all depends on your meta and the deck you're running. If you're using Burning-Tree Emissary then I would say Scavenging Ooze , but if you'd rather have the 3/3 for 2 then I'd say Kalonian Tusker .

Moved to Standard.
These threads always pop up, and I always say the same thing (no offense).
Rotation doesn't happen until Theros, and there isn't much sense in trying to replace anything now. You might as well play the best of what's available for as long as it's available, then worry about replacements when the time comes. We don't even know what the post-M14 meta will be, and Theros hasn't been spoiled. The format might change such that this deck type is no longer viable.
