Want to build competitive Modern deck!!!

Deck Help forum

I am wanting to get into Modern and be pretty competitive, but I also don't want to spend a crazy amount of money. I'm hoping I could end up trading for most of the stuff I would want. So far the only card I really like and would love to run is Wurmcoil Engine . I'm sure there is a ton of ways to use him. I just am trying to be able to build a competitive modern deck without paying a ton of money! I just need to be pointed in a decent direction. Thank you!

Most modern decks that I've seen that run him are Tron decks, which are pretty cheap until you get to the Eldrazi..

Read this http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=496295. If you want to use engine, then tron would be the way to go.

There are a few decks out there that are cheap when compared to tron. I have three decks that I didn't think were too expensive. I run mono red, infect, and G-W hexproof. Infect decks can be fast and win quickly. Mono red can win quickly plus if you have Blood Moon in the deck it can disrupt a lot of other modern decks that don't run a lot of basic lands. G-W hexproof was a bit expensive but mainly cus of the lands in the deck. I'm in the process of building merfolk in modern but I may switch it over to legacy but that's been an expensive task. Not sure if this helps or not but good luck on your modern deck.

Well my tron decks are slowly moving away from elderazi...and going in a more of an artifact direction. Wurmcoil Engine is such a great tron card but I personally have had better results with Batterskull .

Its not very easy to competitively play tron without spending a lot though. When your playing another tron deck it often comes down to who drops the first Karn Liberated .

U/W GiftsTron is a pretty good option for running Wurmcoil Engine , and it also lets you play some simple "I win" cards, like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and Iona, Shield of Emeria .

This is my list, which is very similar to one LSV tends to like UW Tron

There are always other options - Tezzeret control, Mishra-based Grixis decks or even affinity with etherium sculptors. The fact that it is played competitively in one deck means nothing, play the deck you want. If it does not exist, make it.

Actually, Boza, Tezzeret control usually runs Batterskull rather than Wurmcoil Engine because it really only has one slot open, and Skull is more resilient, at least in game 1.
