Wanting to Try Midrange Jund, Need Suggestions

Deck Help forum

I've been wanting to make a Jund deck for a while now, but I don't feel like making yet another aggro deck. However, I've never made a midrange deck and even worse I'm kinda fuzzy on how midrange is even supposed to play.

So far, I was thinking to try to keep things fast early game with things like Lotleth Troll , Dreg Mangler , and Hellhole Flailer as well as clearing obstacles with general damage spells (Searing Spear , Pillar of Flame .)

Not sure if I'm on the right track or not. All suggestions are appreciated.

You can think about midrange as a spectrum that runs from aggro to control. So some midrange decks are purely midrange, some are more control, and some more aggro.

For a difference in lists you will find the choice of creatures.

What you have up there isn't very midrange because it doesn't do much in the high cmc range like 4-6.

Aggro - http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=10805. This is a deck called fervor jund. It is quite midrange because it has control in it and some midrange staples like thragtusk, but is very very much aggro, so much so the deck is called fervor jund, becuase most of the creatures have haste

Mid - Jundastic Midrange (Please Check Out). Id like to concider my deck midrange because it has a few 1 drops, 8 in all. And the deck can get to work in any range of turns starting at turn 1, and does very well in the late game as well with Olivia Voldaren as the all star.

Control - http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=3715 This deck only disrupts on the early turns and slams the fatties and Garruk on the late game to control the game and win it in that direction. Not much is happening except for interaction with small creatures and getting land.

For the best place to learn how to make any deck i sugguest looking on mtg salvation. The jund section is here -> http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=456878

I would suggest reading this article written by Josh Silvestri of Channel Fireball. It does a very good job of highlighting the two best midrange decks in Standard - Jund and Naya.

I personally believe Naya is the stronger color combonation because you get access to both Restoration Angel and card:Avacyn's Pilgrim. However, your mana base is subsequently worse due to the lack of Stomping Ground and Sacred Foundry , but those will be out soon enough.

Enjoy.

Personally I don't like that Naya list. The mana base is SUPER shaky. Only 8 T1 green sources means lots of mulligans to be able to play card:Avacyn's Pilgrim. Also the creature list seems very wonky. Until Gatecrash I really prefer Selesnya or Jund. Even in the eternal formats everyone knows that a good mana base is the foundation of a good deck.

Didn't really check the Jund list just cause its not my cup of tea but I'll say, Deathrite Shaman causes serious problems until your opponent can stabilize.
