What are the best cards to combat Lotleth Troll?

Deck Help forum

I have a new deck built around Lotleth Troll , and I wanna know what cards are the best against it, so I know how to prepare. I know Detention Sphere and Selesnya Charm (yes, with my deck, it will get that big), but what else is there? Besides bounce, like Cyclonic Rift

anything that gives him hexproof?

No, i mean against him. How to get rid of him. What will people use against me. I know about hexproof to protect from Selesnya Charm , and I will have Abrupt Decay for d-sphere

Supreme Verdict can be a problem if you don't leave mana open. also Far / Away can get rid of Lotleth Troll . pretty much any spell that makes you sac it .

If Lotleth Troll is your main source of damage i would make sure to have atleast one other creature on the battlefield to deal with sac effects.

xlaleclx, Abrupt Decay and Hero's Downfall can be regenerated, and Bile Blight can just be counteracted by discarding creatures if I have them. Hopefully I have another creature on the field for Devour Flesh . Thanks, that helps, because it helps me know what to be ready for, and that I dont have to worry too much then since most cards are destroy, or like d-sphere can be destroyed. Cool. I'm looking forward to this. This is the deck btw: I SEE DEAD PEOPLE

And Emarean, take a look at my deck in the comment above, see what you think. It's about getting card advantage into my graveyard, and then returning them to my hand again and again to discard again and again

I think you named most of the good standard removal. Frankly, the only things you should worry about that you can't deal with is Slaughter Games and Thoughtseize . everything else you can either hexproof, regenerate or Abrupt Decay away.

Sweet! And Thoughtseize isn't even gonna bother me since Underworld Cerberus and Angel of Serenity can just return whatever I discard! I'm loving this more and more.

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver i think could hurt this deck, but i am pretty sure that she/he is not really ran in any Standard deck.I like your deck idea though it might be too slow. have you tested the deck vs some of the top decks like UW control, MBD, Esper control, and GR Monsters?

Hexproof stops a lot of the threats, but spells like Putrefy , Azorius Charm . Or spells Anger of the Gods early on, or comboed with other burn spells later on.

You're not always going to have mana open to regenerate or creatures to discard. If you're banking on this it sounds like you're making a bad deck and you're overestimating the card. This is Lotleth Troll , not Thrun, the Last Troll It's not that good of a card.

xlaleclx, this isn't the only card. This is just like my version of Pack Rat like in MBD, and when it hits the field then it becomes the focus. If it dies, so be it, but it's not the only way to win

Well, since it can regenerate, destroy effects and burn aren't that big threats. I'd watch out for exile like Path to Exile , bounces or effects that make you sacrifice cards. Tapping it is also a way to make it useless for a turn, even two turns if it's tapped with something like Sudden Storm that prevents it from untapping.

Basically any card ending with "can't be regenerated" is the weapon of choice. But people usually play reanimator/graveyard decks with Loleth, thus I'd preferably try to exile him with whatever methods possible.

A nice combo is Liquimetal Coating + Revoke Existence to exile whatever

Putrefy kills him without issue.

Anyone mentioning other regular kill spells Abrupt Decay , Hero's Downfall etc. You NEED TO READ THE CARD.

I must continue what GoofyFoot says (because he has got a good point)

Instead of focusing on how to counter destroy and exile spells (which you really can't in B/G - not directly at least) you should instead focus on giving the bastard hexproof. There is nothing more annoying than a hexproof Lotleth Troll ; if he wasn't annoying before he certainly is now.

After that it is just super spells like Damnation and Wrath of God that will bother him (and yes, those are relevant soon enough as the troll will fall out of standard).

So if you want to prepare, bring out hexproof.
